Is it true that Memorex DVD-R 16x DVD's can ruin your PS2? I was told that by some one.

No the only thing that would effect is if your PS2 couldnt read them but it wont ruin your PS2. If you burn with them and the PS2 is loading them and its working then stick with them.

It is better to get better quility DVDs less chance of having burn errors and always burn at 4x or less

Memorex are just plain crap.
I say even if they worek i would switch to a better
media as soon as you use them up. And i would use them up
doing movies and not games.

K. I just think its weird cause Ive been using memorex 16x dvd-r's and theyve worked like a charm and I have backups like area 51, destroy all humans, grand theft auto san andreas, the other GTA's (I could go on). And they all work great.

well, it is a matter of opinion on which dvd brands are good media or are not. but using good media does help prolong your laser life. and any backup game on any media is going to wear on the laser. some faster then others.

i use memorex only for my cd rom games, which i have like 2 of. those games do work fine. i also burn at a slower speed.

Glad they work for you. But for most people they don't
and Memorex being crap is not just my opinion
read any media gide out there and they will tell
you the same thing.
From what i hear the ink is not as good and will
cause stress on your laser trying to read them over time
also the ink may run or fade faster meaning that over time
your games may stop working.

wrong wording there steimy. sorry about that. there is good and bad media, no doubt about it. however, what is the BEST media is debatable.

i am not for memorex. i would suggest something else. i don't use memorex on my dvd games. and i really don't have any cd rom games so i used what i had there and unfortunaly, it was memorex, that i had used for audio cd's, (which i don't care if they last forever, b/c you usually get bored of the cd after 2 months)

True Kcwells
what works for some will not work for all
Trial and error i guess.
That's why i stick with Philips and TDK 8X DVD-R
they always work for me in both my V7 & V12

Going off on a tangent here:

TDK used to be a badge of quality back when CD-Rs were just on their first legs, so I bought a lot of TDK CD-Rs. The very first few, solid blue ones, are still readable. So I kept using TDK even when they switched to the cyan dye. I guess that was a bad decision since those discs all became unreadable in a year. Granted I didnt keep them in light-safe binders or anything.

I wouldn't use TDKs for anything you want to last a long time, CD or DVD. In fact theres no way to really know how long any particular media will last until it's unreadable, so to be safe refresh your backups atleast once a year. Media is cheap, but data can be irreplaceable.

Oh yeah, and dump the Memorexes.
