I've been seaching for these for the past 2 days! I'm fucken pissed. Where the hell are these SOB. I've even searched online. They only have 8x. Which I thought would be OK. But then I read DogBomb's list of Medias and didn't find 8x on there. Is there a store or site any of you guys know of? And what's wrong with the 8x?

Majority of the 4x speed media are being eliminated. However,I am finding the quality 8x speed is very good, especially burned at 4x. Majority of problems with 8x speed is: Older burners firmware must be updated and some of these 16x dvd writers can burn these 8x blanks at 12x and 16x so max burn speed setting should be carefully watched!

If you want some good local ty media, look for made in Japan on the wrappers of Fuji +8x and Sony +1x-8x. The japanese maxell +8x are made by hitachi and are also very good. Of course, the verbatim data life plus +8x is very good.

I haven't noticed any issues of + being better for movies. - works in more older players, yet with bit-setting allows + R media to become DVD Rom and then many more players recognize it as a DVD. I purchase Taiyo Yuden from www.supermediastore.com and I use both 4x and 8X. I only burn both at 4x. I use 8x when I use Nero or any other prog. where the burning speed can be adjusted. 4x is for progs. like Intervideo Copy 3 (unable to adjust burn speed.) I will recive an order of Taiyo Yuden in a day or so. 4x seed -R's . These are simply awe-some (no problems with the first 200). I also had 200 of the 8x (02's) not a problem either. At AD I feel that supermediastore is one of the online dealers that have genuine Taiyo Yuden. I also have Dvd Identifier which confirms what I already knew. Real Deal! Check it out!

i have YET to see ANY Taiyo Yuden 4x DVD+R available anywhere either online or locally, not that i would really care to use any as the 8x DVD+R TYs are fantastic and are VERY good quality.

it's based on personal preference if you say you can use either the 4x DVD-R TYG01s or you would prefer the 8x DVD+R YUDEN000T02, i use both myself and it's just a toss up as to which one i use for my movie backups, i naturally booktype the DVD+R format to dvd-rom, but, i have no problems with my standalones being able to play the TYG01s (4x dvd-r) media either.

pricing from supermediastore is slightly cheaper for the TYG01s, so, if you want to save some $$ and have good quality, AUTHENTIC TY media...i would go with those, either or, you can't really lose when you are using genuine TY media in either format or speed. good luck

Thanx kivoery666, I was meaning that the Ty's that I use are the -R's, and yes I have not seen any +R @ 4x. I use the 8x +R's as well and haven't noticed any difference, I also booktype the +R's. I also find that the verbs are great as well.
