Scratched & Damaged DVD Backup -Tips

I have used the Shrink/Decrypter combination to successfully backup many of my DVDs. A problem sometimes occurs when the original DVD is scratched or in bad condition and Shrink is not be able to analyze it (these disks will still play OK on my set-top DVD player). One good alternative is to try ripping the files first using Decrypter and then go back to Shrink. Sometimes this works OK. However, at times even Decrypter cannot cannot read the damaged original DVD. When this happens, I discovered that I can still make a backup using Roxio Disc Copier (part of Easy Media Creator) and the latest version of DVD43.
For some reason, Roxio Disc Copier is able to compress and burn damaged disks that Shrink and Decrypter cannot read. Encryption can be simultaneously removed by DVD43 running in the background.

A search of the forums will disclose other good tips to help backup scratched and damaged DVDs, but I have not heard about anyone else using this approach. Good luck.
