I have a slimline I bought in december, it has worked perfect until last night. I do have a fliptop on it, but this has been on for months now. The new house I am in is quite hot and i had the unit on top of my home theater system. This could be the reason for the recent problems but I am not certain, I think I may have damage the motor when I pushed down too hard on the flip top. What the unit now does it spin the dvd stop, spin longer stop, it will not read any dvds period, but will read cds, just VERY slowly. I realized that the same day it died, I was watching a dvd and the playback was slow and choppy. Is this my motor? or something worse!
Thanks,
JG

problem with the slims is that the laser has a tendency to die. that is why you need a laser fix when you get a mod installed. plus, a lot of ppl suggest getting a laser fix even w/o a modchip.

it sounds like a laser problem to me.

have you tried standing it up on it's side
so it doesn't get as hopt and putting a fan in front
of it to cool it down. That may help
mine acted real funny like that when i took it on vacation
and played it in a house with no AC
