There's a DVD & a CD version that you can buy (hdadvance) but you can download freeware ones as well as elf files for the memory card, some modchips can boot directly from a HDD w/o the need for any CD/DVDs.

@ DArkhadou most swap magic users are the new slimline owners so they have this tape and straw method they uses ...and most people buy the flip top too.

I use Swap Magic to play backups to keep the kids from messing up the originals.

While I would prefer a modchip, I got my PS2 at the launch so it is nearly 5 years old now. Whenever it dies and I have to replace it I will probably go with a mod chip, but I can't see sinking money into one on my current PS2 since it is so old.
