This seems like a hopeless cause, but I came here, my last and final outpost, for help on this situation. Let me begin by explaining that my Playstation 2, due to several boneheaded mistakes on my part, ceases to work. I'll start from the top.

1. The stupid little shiny flat cord came out when I opened it up, that one time. I didn't know what it was for, until I tried to turn it back on, and nothing happened. I reconnected it again, in a process that cost many hours, frustration, and the skin on my thumbs from all the krazy glue I had to use, to put the little blue piece back on.

2. It worked for a little while, but once again, I accidentally removed the wire from the console yet again. This time, I was not in the mood to fix it up, and decided to just wait a while until I felt like I was in the mood to mess with it again, so I turned to my fully functional xbox once again.

3. I came back and worked on it through the wee hours of the morning, but in the process, yet another cord came out, and that was the one that connected that one piece with the two memory card readers and the two controller ports to the main console. I tried to put it back in, but that cord is even harder to connect than the littler one. I got it to stay, just a little bit, but at least it sort of worked. It stayed put anyway. Carefully, I connected the littler wire to the tiny slot, and set it back up the way it was before, with the shell case and whatnot.

Finally, I turned the console on, with the switch in the back, and the red light over the power button finally started glowing again, whcih is good. However, none of the buttons did anything at all. I push power, nothing happens, I push eject, nothing happens. It just stays red, and nothing happens.

The question, the real question, the final question, is a two parter. Does this have anything to do with the controller/memory card piece snapping off, or is it something wrong with my actual reset and power buttons? The small silver wire is in there perfectly, like I tested it and everything. I need answers.

Sorry if I went on and on, but this is how I write and I can't help it.

This is the message that will be at the end of every post I make. By the time you finish reading it, you will have wasted at least eight seconds of your life reading this.

Ahahahhaha thats so funny :) i mean that sux (o.o)

Ugh, well ps2 inerds are very delicate it could b a number of things...all which You allready mentioned not only that but you can blow any of 1000 fuses/circuits on the motherboard by mixing the +/- strandwires you tried to connect (if you haven't allready). Your ps2 sounds to me to b DEAD cuz of a fuse at the moment :(

I would get one of those electrogauge thingys' that tell you if there's Power runing on each circuit if you got the time or if you're up 4 it. Personally, i'd buy a new ps2, unless it's a different problem...

Oh, check this out. I have some even better news for you here. You're going to love this:

After posting that previous thing up there, I went back and decided to go back into the ps2 to attempt to, err, uhm... 'fix' it myself. Okay, well, yeah, here's what happened.

For some reason, I pushed the tiny silver cord in all the way, and the buttons seemed to work again.. I was thinking, "Okay... that's good, I guess, but without the controllers and memory cards, my video game experience is going to be a pretty hollow one" so I broke it open yet again, and krazy-glued the other flat cord connected to the controllers and card slots to the... the... to the 'I-really-wish-I-knew-what-it-was-called' ... the jack. This time, I didn't really bother to try putting the case back on, because I just wanted to see if the stupid ps2 worked yet, and usually going through the trouble of putting the case back on runs the risk of knocking another one of those ridiculously flat cords out of the holes. WHY DO THEY HAVE TO BE SO FRAIL AND BRITTLE?! SERIOUSLY, YOU WOULD THINK THAT THE CORD THAT DETERMINES THE ON/OFF SWITCH WOULD BE SLIGHTLY LESS FRAGILE.

So here's where the hilarious human tragedy comes in. I look around, everything seems to be where it belongs, the super glue is holding pretty well, it seems fine, so I turn the switch on in the back. Okay, red light comes on, good sign, I press power, and it goes blue. Excellent sign. Looks like I can play Playstation 2 again, for the first time in weeks. Right?

No, not even close, because one second after the light turned blue, all the power in my apartment ceased to be, which really sucked because I was doing laundry at the time. It was out for, like, an hour and I don't know if it had anything to do with hooking the ps2 up wrong, or maybe it was just a horrible coincidence. There was absolutely no power whatsoever. No power in any of the rooms, the air conditioner went out, the fridge went out, even the clock radio in my bedroom went out. Like, this was seriously a power outage. I never really found out if it was just me, or if the rest of the apartment complex was out of power either, but I heard a few people walk outside, yelling about something, sounding annoyed.

So I'm worried that by trying to fix my Playstation 2, I may have caused a blackout in my apartment complex. I may try to fix it again tonight, but uhm... I'm a little nervous this time.

So I go back in, put everything back together, put that useless sheet of clear plastic back where I found it because it looked like it belonged there, and maybe that is what caused my blackout from before. I hook everything back up, re-apply krazy glue to some places, and just check to see if it would work, so I hold the thing together, without putting it back in the outer case, and hold it by the circuit board as I plug it in... 1,000 volts and one electricuted hand later, I turn it off, and try it again with the bottom part at least attached. The thing turns on, and the lights stay on too! Success!

Oh, but the controllers don't work. Back to the drawing board.

Okay, I just threw my Playstation 2 in the trash. I can't take this anymore. The controller piece was glued in perfectly, so there was really nothing else I could do. Too bad, too, because everything else worked just fine. I'll just get a freakin' new one.

It probably didn't work because somehow in the process of super gluing you probably got a little on the cord connectors or something so that would ultimately alter that part useless. LOL i hope you have better luck in the future

It really sucks, too. After all that time unscrewing, losing the screws, gluing my hands together, blowing the lights out, electrocuting myself, and swearing at my ps2, it actually worked for a minute. I just could not use the controller, which was really sad. It's ok, though, I found a pretty good deal on ebay for a new one.

When you were connecting the flex cables back to the ps2 board, you fipped up those little tabs to but them in right... Because if you didn't, that's probably what gave you such a hard time in the first place.

There is also an order that you put it back togther in too. Some stuff you have to connect with the board out of the case.

Unless you took a hammer to your ps2, i wouldn't toss it man. All those cable are replaceable.

Yea, dont throw it out. Sorry bout all that trouble you went thru, i feel you. I fucked my old ps2 once, dropped it a few times, the last time before it went out was when i dropped it from head height. that mo'fo just hit the floor and boom. it was when i was first released. i shelved it on a head height next to my tv, hit my head on it and then on it fell. had to fucking rip the cd tray open the get the nba street cd out. fuckin thing wouldn't eject the cd. got a new smaller one about a year after that. serves me right. Well on point, don't throw it our man. get it to a pro, just for the fuse and rewiring. might be salvagable, but next time layoff the superglue. that shit is messy. Learnt that when i broke momma's china ornaments.

Ok, so I found out that not only did I lose all the power in my apartment, but everyone connected to the same transformer lost power. That means the power outage stretched out to Wal Mart, Target, the strip mall, and most of the residential areas. I so wish I was making this up. Anyway, the Playstation 2 works, but it doesn't respond to controller inputs. I can't really tell what I am doing wrong here. I reconnected the flex cable connecting the controller/card slots to the jack, and yet, still I get no satisfaction. The slot that it goes into looks flat and brown. I also notice that it looks like it may be loose. Perhaps if I tighten this up (I really hope I don't need to break out the krazy glue again) it will work? I wish there was some kind of place you could go, so that you can get a diagnostic on this kind of hardware and really check out every last piece that comprises it, rather than having to learn as you go along.

I am going to some serious lengths just so that I can play with my HDLoader again. Let this be a lesson to any prospective buyers out there. I have lost sleep, cut myself, shocked myself, burned myself, glued the skin on my fingers into grotesque shells, purchased broken playstation 2's online (I decided to retract my offers, which I really hope happens.) and gone through countless other tortures.

I saw a deal. Gamecube, Playstation 2, and GTA: SA PS2.. only 25 dollars. Turns out that I forgot to read the part about how both game systems are broken. Additionally, 25 is not the correct price, because the minimum bid that they accepted was higher. Instead, I ended up paying 60 dollars, and close to 20 for shipping and handling. For two broken game systems and a game I already have.

I am hoping to retract my offers on these, and it really better work. Chances are, I can repair both of them, and then I don't know what I'll do with GTA. Still, I got hosed. I just really thought there was nothing else I could do for my ps2, which is totaled. I can work on it again, but not until I get more advice from this thread.

Okay, so maybe it won't be bad that I can't back out, now, of that offer I made on the two game systems and a game. I mean, I can fix stuff... right? And it is a market value of like $300 dollars, if you don't count the fact that everything but the game is broken. It doesn't sound that bad, like, I can probably fix it all.

Of course... it's that kind of attitude that caused one totaled ps2 and an hour-long citywide blackout.

But uhmm...... I've never owned a Gamecube, so you know, it's win... I guess. I'm pissed. Real pissed. My luck...... SUCKS.

You know that brown slot that it plugs into... That is like a locking tab to hold in the cable. You have to lift that up and snug in the flex cable and then snap that tab down on top of the wires. Most of the cable connections on the ps2 are like that too.

To save time testing if your ps2 is working or not, you can play it without the lid attached. Take that white circle thing out of the lid (don't worry, it's flexable) and place your game on the cd tray. That white thing is a magnet that holds the game to the cd spinner/motor. It'll snap onto the center and hold your cd in place.

Start up your ps2 after your trial and error for the controller connector. I'm going to take a camera to work, I'll see if i can snap a few pics while i'm there.

Seriously? That would be awesome as hell.

I work third shift at a Wal Mart, so I'm usually at work between the hours of 10pm and 7am. And then when I get home, I'm passed out until like 7, so I'm going to take your advice when I get up. And if I can get this thing to actually work out, and I still get another Playstation 2 in the mail (There really is no going back once you sign a contract with ebay, you may as well be signing it in blood) then I will have an extra Playstation 2, as a backup spare. Just in case something like this happens again.

Oh yeah, that circle magnet is in the lid of the drive... You have to unscrew the lid of the drive to get to it. Use the ps2 without the top half of the case and the lid for the drive.

Sorry if it sounds confusing o_O. It's easier than it sounds.

UPDATE!!!:

Okay, located the little brown slot thing again. Tried snapping it shut, which worked, but it feels as if it is barely hanging on. Hardly even nudging it will cause it to open up again. I'm thinking of sticking a penny in there to wedge it shut, so that the cord won't keep coming out, which seems to happen a lot with this thing. I don't think a penny would be a good idea, considering the amount of raw electricity that must be running through the ps2 at any given time. Remember, I already electrocuted my hand yesterday afternoon. I need a good nonconductor... unless there is some better way to go about this without potentially killing myself.

It seems like it may be a little easier to just keep the cd disc lid on. I know, it's that thing that looks like a black waffle iron. It's pretty easy to work with that thing. Not a problem. Considering what I am currently going through, it almost seems like a wonderful relaxing walk through an enchanted park.
