I have 2 AVI files here that are CD1 and CD2. I want to burn these as VOB files so I can then burn to DVD-R.

When playing the AVI files, the audio and video are in perfect sync but when encoding them, the audio becomes out of sync with the video.

I tried encoding the AVI files with WinAVI first which took about an hour to do but when playing the VOB files in Windows Media Player Classic and Windows Media Player 10, the video freezes after 1 second and locks up the media players.

I then tried to encode with Nero Vision Express 3 and after 2 and a half hours of encoding, I played the VOB files in Windows Media Player Classic and Windows Media Player 10. On both players, the audio and video is out of sync. I dont know if the audio gets out of sync as soon as the movie starts or if its progressional lag but the audio is fine on the AVI files.

Opening the AVI files with Gspot tells me this...

Video Path = (S) --> Avi Splitter --> XviD MPEG-4 Video Decoder --> (R)

Audio Path = (S) --> Avi Splitter --> AC3Filter --> (R)

Stream Type and A/V Interleave type = OpenDML AVI
IMRR = 1.00
I/L = 1 aud frame (32 ms) Split: Yes

How would I encode this file without the audio becoming out of sync with the video?

Extract the audio to .wav
Use the .wav as the audio source during encoding.

The only guide I see that could help me is "Extract AC3 audio from AVI file"

But this only shows me how to take apart the audio from the video, I dont know what to do next. Please explain if you know, I get this problem often and would love to know how to fix it.

More simply, open the AVI with VirtualDubMod.
Do Stream__Stream List and see which kind of audio streams you have (probably it will show an AC3 file). Your PC might not able to uncompress directly them to WAV (you need some codecs, like AC3Decoder I suppose, but I never used them because my TV hasn't surround speakers). Therefore, simply click 'Demux' and save that AC3 file.

During authoring, you might use directly the AC3 files (putting a delay = 0) in the authoring program.
Otherwise, and if you don't have surround speakers, doing an AC3 DVD is useless. If you needed to make VCDs (which don't support AC3 sound) HeadAC3he might uncompress them, but AC3 DVD will play even if you don't have surround speakers (it will seem you like you listened to a VCDs, of course)...

Here's the easiest solution: Use version NVE3.0.1.27 or earlier and that should eliminate the problem. The newer versions of Nerovision cause this problem with some AVI. files.

The version I am using is already 3.0.1.27, I upgraded to 3.1 yesterday and tried encoding a file that Nero made the audio out of sync with on the older version of Nero and the audio is perfect now with this version.

I have other files that the old Nero made the audio out of sync with . I will try encoding these with the newer Nero and let you know if the problem is fixed.
