I backed up Sahara with no problem using DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 and DVD Shrink 3.2 .

Make sure you have the latest version of DVD Decrypter.

The latest Version is Currently: Version 3.5.4.0

Use DVD Decrypter to "rip" the DVD to your hard drive in "File" mode - and from the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "All files" (NOT "movie files").

Then use DVD Shrink to "Open files" (NOT "Open Disk") - and select "VIDEO_TS.IFO" or the actual "VIDEO_TS" folder.

A good tutorial on how to accomplish this is located here: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45238

Download DVD Decrypter version 3.5.4.0 here: http://mrbass.org/dvdrip/

What and where exactly are you having problems with this movie? During the ripping phase or encoding? Please let us know exactly what type of problem you are having. Just saying it dosen't work won't give anyone enough to go on..

Thanks

During encoding.

I'm going to go back and reread the guides again.

Thanks for the responses.

Jmet,

I had previously tried to decrypt but had not selected the 'select all' selection.

What difference would this make?

I'm now attempting to decrypt using the method described in the guide.

Thanks a lot.

I'll let you know if it works.

Best regards,

DVD Shrink needs the entire DVD structure to open the files. (Not just the main movie files)

Not trying to diss you or anything but that is a totally false statement. DVD Shrink only needs the main movie files and the IFO that goes with them. So doing main movie + IFO in Decrypter is plenty.

Check out one of my guides :-) I never rip the whole DVD there is no need if all you want is the main movie anyway. CloneDVD2 will work the same way also. :-)

Yes, that does work, just open DVD Shrink and click the "Re-author" button and add the files that way. But for practicality sakes, I just always say "DVD Shrink needs the full DVD structure."

I tried again using bbmayo's guide for dvddecrypter w/ shrink, and this is the error I received.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Like halfthere, I also used anydvd running in the backround to decrypt, but used pinnacle instant copy to compress. The backup worked great. They offer a free 21 day trial of anydvd if you would like to try it. I think its a great piece of software.

KraZvideo,
I'll give my 2 cents worth. Looks like you might have a bad press:
SCSISTATUS: 0x02
Interpretaion: Check Condition
CDB: 28 00 00 1F 5D 00 00 00 01 00
Interpretaion: Read (10) ? Sector 2055424

Interpretation: L-EC Uncorrectable Error

Carry the disk back for an exchange and try again.. If you get a read error in DVDDecrypter it could be a scratch or a bad press.

Try bbmayo's idea but if it bottom's out again then return it for a better copy, just my $.02

Anytime I have gotten this type of read rate, it has been a bad disk.

KraZvideo - A CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) error is DVD Shrink's and/or DVD Decrypter's way of telling you that it cannot read the disc (DVD). It is caused from the disc being to dirty (fingerprints, smudges, etc.) or being to scratched. First, try cleaning the DVD. You can try toothpaste to lessen the severity of the scratches. (By no means am I saying that you will totally restore the DVD back to original condition, all your doing is just trying to get DVD Shrink to successfully read it.) If DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter still generates this error message, I suggest returning the original for a different copy.

I also have the same CRC error on VTS_05_3.VOB. It dies at 22%. This is a brand new disc and is in perfect condition.

I have had these errors before with newly released blockbuster movies and an upgrade to AnyDVD fixed the error. New protection schemes I assume. I guess I'll try another disc to see if it helps.

Have any of you even bothered to try DVDFab Decrypter? I have had very good results with that proggy when DVD Decrypter couldn't do the job. Give it a try and you just might be surprised :-) If you need the program check out the link for software in my sig

Cheers :-)
