i've tried various programs like dvdsanta and ifo edit but they don't seem to work without giving me a green screen with the movie skipping. this is buggin me because we don't have a region free player. is there a program that'll do it successfully?

Converting "PAL" to "NTSC" is hard and often yields undesirable results even if you are successful. There are no "1 Click" programs to my knowledge that will convert PAL to NTSC for you (ok maybe one kinda). Your best bet is to purchase a DVD player that plays both PAL and NTSC.

If you still would like to try and do it, you can go here for some guides: http://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?tools=&madeby=&formatconversi...

A good a free proggy that will do this and is pretty much one click is AVI2DVD.. What type of files are you talking about? If they are already DVD Compliant files (VOB, BUP, IFO) then just open them up in AVI2DVD and click on the box that says convert from PAL to NTSC or vise versa and hit go... To easy

It shouldn't unless you have a problem with the original file?

I don't know about converting, but ripping yes! I purchased a program called IMToo DVD ripper. I can put in a PAL DVD and rip it into a MPEG format. Those play well and look well when I burn them to a Video DVD and play it on my TV.
