Bought a shrink wrapped (100)taiyo yuden discs from svp.Are these genuine.The disc quality scan results are crap.I can get better scans using verbatims +r 8x made in taiwan.Since all the UK stock of verbatims are india, i decided to buy theses disc that many people recommended.

The TY disc was burned at 4x,discjuggler pro,plextor 716A fw 1.08.

actually your scans are NOT THAT BAD...while your MCC Verbs are better, your YUDEN000T02 scans are decent...

i am no expert in reading scans/graphs, but, my own scans on my TY DVD+R 8x are only slightly better...what i concern myself with is more on the playback...are there noticeable imperfections/skipping/pixellations when you play the movie/backup?

i know the boys/girls over @ cdfreaks know a LOT MORE than i do regarding scans and disc quality scans, etc..but, i rarely ever really look into it much further UNLESS there are noticeable errors during playback...

just my opinion on your scans, don't really know what YOU consider a "good scan" and what you consider "crap"...that will inevitably vary from one person to another...

Both scans look good. I'd change the speed to 4x though since that is what speed you burned at. As long as there are no spikes or large blocks of PIF's you should be all set. Your discs are 100% genuine.

Not a bad scan on the Yuden000T02... BUT why do people keep throttling back this great media? (8X TY inkjet printables fro Rima)

I don't see a problem with either scan. Since you have a sony burner
(rebadged lite-on) you can also use Kprobe (free) to scan your discs.

guess i wasn't the ONLY one who thought his scans were pretty decent~ :)

they are on par with my TY scans too, mine are ever so slightly better...but, flawless on playback~ that's all i really concern myself with, the actual playback...i personally don't feel the need to scan EVERY one of my discs (that would take forever, no joke) and i don't personally rely very much on the scan results...guess i'm not as picky as some people on here...i just stick with what WORKS FOR ME. :)

whew~! glad im not alone in this...hehe

perhaps slow the burn down to 4x on those TYs...assuming they are authentic, mine don't skip as i burn MOST my TYs @ 8x. there are many factors that could lead to this "skipping" problem you are having, but, using GOOD quality media, you might want to consider other aspects of your burning to be the underlying problem...is your firmware up to date? what programs are you using to burn? do you multitask during the actual burning process? etc.etc.

if you have AUTHENTIC Taiyo Yudens, i think i would be pretty safe in saying it's NOT a media problem, but your issues arise from something else during the backup process...

@PikaPuff -

i'm also from the UK, and for some time i've been buying all my Verbs from svp. i've used approx 1500 Verbs, a helluva lot of Indian ones, Singapore and Taiwan.

what makes you say they're crap ?, have you got playback and/or burn problems ? or do you just not like the scans ?..

plus if you want to see real BAD, evil scans..have a look at the first link in my sig..

@jnrg18 - download dvd identifier (free) from here - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...

run it & near the top of the utility you'll see the exact drive name which will also have the firmware revision on the same line. paste the exact drive name and the firmware rev too.

Are you sure those TY are genuine ?

Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RW1D2{FW JWS5}. This is what pops up in dvd identifier. Where can I purchase TY and know that they're authentic. You may be right. I'm thinkin about trying the Verbatim Advance AZO. I can't find the Dataplus in the stores.

@ creaky.
I downloaded the new firmware but when i try to open it, it says Target NEC ND-3520A is not found properly. Should I try downloading a different one from the site. Maybe the 16S Dual format Internal?

- No. There's the problem, you must have more than one burner connected. sounds to me like the firmware update is expecting to find the Memorex drive connected to the port/channel where the NEC drive is connected.... unless the firmware executable has command line switches to enable you to specify where the Memorex is actually connected. For instance, this is how mine are connected -

@PikaPuff - i/we haven't forgotten you, pls post back when you can..

@jnrg18 - you've lost with that 5 or 6 firmware reference!, i posted you 1A3.

as to printable media i don't actually use it. (now you're probably gonna ask why i'm participating in this thread). i try and watch most of the media threads even if i don't use certain ones. have a quick look thru the first couple pages of this very forum for more threads on printables, plus the other guys on this thread will no doubt pop by soon..
