The 16x is 39.99 and the 8x is 24.99 both being a 50 pack. Which one is the better deal? Or what is even the difference if you aren't suppose to burn above 4x anyway? Thanks in advance.

@calico87

Likewise I would go with the 8x because it also depends on what are u trying to back up DVD Movies or creating movies either way a bit slower the better... The less of a risk of havin jumpy video and sound...

@ calico87 hi :)
the manufactuer's media speed is usually the max speed for burning data. they will also have a recommended video optimum burning speed which is nearly always half the max speed.
i.e for a 16x rated disc.. up to x16 for data, up to 8x for video
for a 8x rated disc.. up to 8x for data, up to 4x for video
to get a successful burn with no errors as borhan9 says most of us burn at 2.4x or 4x max
and i'll go with Mort81 and save yourself $10

I have a 16X burner with some Taiyo Yuden DVD+R's that will burn at 16X but, the fastest I burn is 4X. (%96.933 of the time I still burn at 2X.)

I go with the rest of the group save yourself some money and get the 8x. My Plexie will burn at 16x but I keep it to 4x, I would rather not find out later that my disk was a coaster and have to end up redoing it. My two cents :)

i've only used a few of the 16x (no problems with them, but it was still only a few). have used like 1500 of the 8x, mostly -R but a few +R too, all fantastic discs (and in the UK the 8x are now cheaper due to the arrival of 16x). i never burn above 4x so only tried the 16x for a laugh, it's a waste of money while lower speed discs are in such large supply (ps i've used Verbs from India, Singapore and Taiwan with zero problems)
