swapmagic/action replay

I am trying to use action replay max for some cheats for a game but after I select what codes I want I put swap magic in and try to load the game. But my problem is it doesn't want to boot the game it just goes to a black screen and stops responding. What can I do? I have a fliptop slim ARmax and SM 3.6

I have already tried to do a search to solve this problem but no one is having a similar problem.

how is your PS2 modded?
Is it a flip top you bought or the one it came with?
The one it came with will reset when you try to swap
out from Swap Magic to the back up.
If it is one you bought then you may just need to get
DVD Loader. I know that is how it was done with the older
PS2
