I asked about this the other day but couldnt find my post.
Ive been using DVD Decrypter and Shrink for a while, no problems till now. I've unistalled those and reinstalled them. Updated the DVD Burner I have (Plextor-PX716UF). I wasnt sure what the blank DVD's I had, but I read another post and they posted a DVD Identifier, and heres what I got from it:

Disk & Book Type: [DVD+R]
Manufacturer Name: [Prodisc Techonology Inc.]
Manufacturer ID: [PRODISC]
Media Type: [RO3]
Product Revision: [003]
Blank Disc Capacity: [2,295,104 Sector= 4.70 GB (4.38 GiB)]
Recording Speeds: [1x-2.4x, 4x, 6x-8x]

I had the burn speed at 4x. The disc looks like its burnt but my dvd player doesnt read it. We have plenty of back ups that we've burnt before using these blank dvd's. Ive also used the Scuba Pete guide on Shrink/Decrypter. I dont know what else is wrong or to do! Tired of wasting DVDs. Thanks a bunch!

I've been hit or miss on the prodisc media.
Your Plextor should support book typing for +r media. Try booktyping the disc to dvd rom with Decrypter.

@eltipton, sorry friend, I believe it's a media issue. I have used in the beginning the Prodisc (in my case very unsuccessful!) Your burn speed is fine, but I would try another media...TY's, Verbatims, Maxells and just confirm if it is or isn't media.

What is exactly booktyping the disc to dvd rom with Decrypter? How would i go about that? Also, Ive got about 50 backups w/ the prodisc dvds never a problem till now. Also, all of a sudden while its shrinking instead of it saving as an ISO its associating the file w/ Roxio (we use for burning CD's)....

I might be incorrect on this but I believe that Roxio can be a rpoblem with other software...maybe disable that prog. as you encode and burn with another. Book-type or bit set is when a burner (if it is capable of being book type) can turn a +R disk into a Dvd Rom, which allows it to be used a on wider variety of standalone players. That is one reason -R's seem to work well with oldr Dvd Players. Many Burners can be upgraded with firmware that makes it capable of being book typed.

It is odd that Roxio was able to change the file type. That is usually an option that comes up during the installation of a program and you are asked what file types should be assioated with the program.

To change it try this:
Right click the "Roxio" ISO.
Select the "Open with" option.
Below the Programs list, first check the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" box.
Find DVD Decrypter on the Programs list. Click on it.
Select OK.

You want to Check the "Always use..." box first because as soon as you click on DVD Decrypter on the list it will open the program and you won't otherwise be able to put a check in the box.

Well I unistalled Roxio. Im trying to download Nero 6 demo. but every time I launch it, its says its expired. So i unistall, restart, and try to redownload it. And now after doing this about 3 times, its still saying its expired. I give up on Nero.
Im about at my wits end. LOL. I had a few verbatim dvd-r's and tried burning the dvd w/ those, and it does the same thing as the prodisc's. goes thru the whole process and then the disc looks burnt, but wont play....everything is updated, the firmware, unistalled decrypter and shrink and reinstalled it and still the same thing...

Try the disc on a different standalone DVD player.

If you want to booktype with your Plextor then use the PlexTools and go into the drive information and check the automatic booktype tab. The drive will then automatically booktype the +R to DVD-Rom in any burning program you use. With current firmware update you should have not problems using the disks you are using.

Ok, another quick question..I saw that some people use the DVD Fab Decrypter. Is it just about the same as DVD Decrypter? And after you shrink it can the DVD Fab burn the DVD? Or do I need to have burning software?

Dvd Decrypter is still better, yet Fab Decrypter is being updated, but Dvd Fab Decrypter does not burn. Decrypter does in ISO mode.

DVD Fab Decrypter is a good ripping program, it handles all the new encryption. It does not burn you must use another program. Here is a guide that shows you how to use the program

@arniebear, I have not ran into any issues with Dvd Fab Decrypter, have you? I still just decrypt with DVD Decrypter for Rebuilder Pro...I guess I kind of got into a habit. I do like how Fab Decrypter is being updated regularly. Have a good one!

@MovieDud

I did have a problem with DVD Fab in the beginning Shrink would not open the decrypted files but they fixed that a few updates ago and it has run smoothly since then and it does rip well. Hope they keep it updated as I really like to rip to my hard drive before encoding. I feel it gives me less of a chance of errors, but that is just my way of doing it and everyone has there own preferences :)

I agree my friends. It's one more step, but I want to prevent as many problems as possible. In my situation it seems that Fab Decrypter is just a little bit quicker. Thanx Have a good one my friend.

Keep in mind, that once you have ROXIO on your HD it a bugger to get rid of it. There are entries in your REGISTRY that have to be deleted. I do not remember the utility that will do this. Re-formatting the HD does the trick. A pain in the rear end tho.

For me, DVD Shrink and Clone DVD have have been almost 100%.
