The speed of the burning isnt up to par. I have a 16x dvd burner and 16x dvd's. I can't get anything including this program to allow me to burn at 16x... what is wrong?

not enough specifics to go on. plus if it's movie burning, you'll be hard pushed to find anyone who will recommend much over 4x

Oh okay, so I should burn it slower anyways. I wasn't sure. But it makes sense. I have been going at 2x or 4x I dont remember. Does the make of the disc make quality lesser or better? I use the Verbatim DVD+R 16x speed discs.

you're using very good discs there, i've used a few 16x Verb +R (burnt at 4x), but have used something like 1500 8x Verbatim, mostly -R but +R too. I've used 100 genuine Taiyo Yuden (TY) discs too but i am a Verbatim man thru and thru. i've not had very good experiences with 8x burning but people do (my system/media are up to the job). but i'm more than happy with 4x burning, it doesn't take long and it's guranteed to work (no multitasking or even touching the computer during the burn process, recently i surfed whilst burning and a few discs burnt 100% fine but skipped on playback).

I only bought the 16x to try them out, and now (in UK anyway) 8x Verbs discs are now cheaper due to the arrival of 16x discs (i've used Verbs from Singapore, India and Taiwan with fantastic results).

i don't use merely decent discs, but only top notch stuff such as Verbatim as previously i bought/used about 500 Bulkpaq Orange 8x discs (mostly burnt at 4x) without burn errors/playback errors. Then i had loads of problems and now i have really bad problems with even playing back those Bulkpaq's, never mind re-copying them. That experience pushed me to start my own thread - the 1st link in my signature...

Just my 2 cents/method on burning speed. I burn at 1/2 of what the burner speed is as long as the media supports that speed. The burner must be a good one also. I use either a LiteOn or Pioneer. Example 8x burner - burn at 4x. Usually I burn at 8x on the 16x speed burner w/ TY's. I've had no problems and never multitask during the process.
As creaky said only top notch stuff though - I'm a TY gal though I do use some verbatim datalifeplus.
