i can't really give my opinion on the ds because i haven't played it that much. But when i did play the ds a couple of times with different games i have to say i don't like it much. The only game i liked was that new kirby and mario 64x4 was good except playing with the dpad wasn't that great, but i'm sure you could get used to that. But their lineup for the fall looks very promising.

I love my psp i am recently playing coded arms and i love that game which is weird because i really wasn't a fan of FPS's. I recently found someone to play multiplayer with and for a guy who's used to playing with link cables with gbas' playing wirelessly made me giggle like a little girl. I love putting music and videos on it especially when i'm on the subway i can listen to it. Also sometimes i tell my friends about something funny or interesting i saw on tv and they don't know what i'm talking until i pull out my psp and show them. It's kinda hard trying to figure out the things like putting videos and stuff on it but when you do it's great.

Also let me not foget the fact that i have a vesion 1.5 all that emulation greatness is literally in the palm of my hand.

Ok PSP VS DS, psp with firmware that aloows you to play homebrew I would give a 10, a psp without homebrew I would give a 7, the DS systems is still pretty sweet and the only reason I'm giving it an 8 is because of the Nintendo titles(Mario,Wario, and Metroid*sweet*,etc, etc.) and the price. I gave the regular PSP a 7 cause you have to spend at least another hundred dollars for a nice size memory stick to watch a full movie and have a sizable music colection.

Well Besides the fact that $ony are being Arsehole about the 2.0 Firmware. And the curse of the Dead / Stuck Pixels. The PSP is going to mop the Floor with Nintendos' offering. I think that trying to pander to a Young Audince is not that bad of an idea. For about Twenty Years ago!! Kinda like Frosted Flakes', Video Games are something Adults have grown to like. And my Snoty nose Brats won't be dictating which Console enters the Hose. (well perhaps they might!),. But, I'm goning to support the Console that I want to. the one that has Kiddie Games + GTA!

After nearly Twenty years of the Gameboy you'd think that Nintendo wold have busted out with the PSP themselvs?

Well lets see...
There was the Sega 'GameGear'
The 'PC Engine Express' (US: Turbo Express)
The Atari Lynx

Just to name a few! Every One of 'em then was (is still), way better then any offering from Nintnedo! Unfortunatly for Nintendo this time (and I dub this the iPod Theroy), Nobody was willing to dump the Cash needed for those Platforms and no one botherd to suport 'em.

$ony has major support Hell they are #1 in the Bussness! So allthough the Lauch Titels are lame I'm willing to bet it will improve before Christmass. But getting back to the Price point. Sure 250 anything is expensive! Like alot of iPod neighsayers. that is untill they get ther hands on One then they don't want to give it up. And then they realise that x250.00 for an iPod is damn fair price point! It's the same way for the PSP. It's more then just a Games Machine. No it will not replace my smaller (longer life 3G) <- Joke being that the 3G is known for bad Batterie life. But, the Stigmata of 'sticker Shock' has been broken! As People with PSP's will also likey have an iPod as well...

And given that the DS is (was) ?149.00(EUR), I'd rather invest the +100.00(EUR) on the PSP, and enjoy a handheld that can run 3D Games that look like (or better then), a PS1. The DS by compairision looks like another take on the Advace / Color Generation.

Again Nintento need to wake up and realize that the Chinpòkimon Generation does not have the Money to buy there Boxes and makeing there Systems more appealing to a userbase of 5 ~ 10 Year Olds ain't going to appeal to the +25 Crowd. Save those that are into Lolicon.

I have had a Nintendo DS for well over a year and can't find many games for it. Of the dosen or so games released, most rely on a simple gimmick for entertainment value so after an hour of play I find myself wanting my money back. Who is supporting the DS? Where are the good games? Why is it taking so long to get some action?

When I walk into any game store I'm finding Nintendo products have been relocated to a little space in the back corner of the store that's out of the way. When I quiz any of the staff about accessories I am told that they still support DS but they are keeping minimum stock so I have to wait while they order it in.

With no real game selection available, I'm forced to look at GBA carts to play on my DS. I found stores like EB have huge stock piles of old trade-in GBA carts and the second hand stores also have heaps. As a result, they are starting to sell original carts for AU$10. I think this is because everyone is trading in GBA and are now buying PSP. At first I thought cheap GBA carts was good but I do feel that I'm going backwards with this DS thing. Consider that GBA games can be emulated on anything more powerful than a $2 calculator, so I guess paying even $10 is expensive for second hand carts and paying anything over $50 for a DS is plain stupidity.

My feeling is the Nintendo portable gaming platforms are sinking along... I'm going to get either a PSP or join the underground gamer?s movement and pick up one of those GP2X handheld game systems. Either one will be more fun than this stupid DS.

i think the psp is better because i have one first off, and also because it has better games and is just better all around. the DS is actually pretty lame in my opinion because it has very few games for as long as its been out and sony kills nintendo like crazy haha

cjcoled, u have no bases for any of those "facts" u just shared, the nintendo DS has a constantly growing library including Advance Wars, Wario Ware, Mario, Meteos, and more. The DS is innovative and i can't think of any decent games for PSP that aren't minor varients of their PS2 counterparts.

For me its pretty simple and it comes down to what you want. I have both and my DS has a layer of dust on it i only knocked off to pay Advanced wars DS. While the Psp has been the system i take almost everwhere. Heres why: when i got my DS i was stocked happy as heck in fact however many of the games are just rehashes of old stuff. my second problem is that i think they spread themselves to thin Gamecube isnt doing well, you have the advance, the advance SP, the stupid Micro, and the DS. too many options and not enough focus on making better games for the DS. Fact is (IMO) if you have been making tons of GBA games its easier to churn them out than to put out Touch based DS games. that in general has not allowed for many true DS games to release and its kind of sad as the DS is a great system. My next problem is the lack o f PDA software for it had it released with the option to buy a PDA software they would have increased their sales 10 fold. the fact that it has still not released does not do anything to save the system either I just think it was a bad decision on Nintindos part.

as for the PSP, a lack of games and the constant upgrading issue of the OS is becoming an issue for me because when i bought mine i had to get a specific game to even get on the internet, (again somehting that should have been available at release) However, the capabilities of the Psp push it past the DS. Playing Movies (both UMD and from memory card) have made hours of my life nice again (making psp movies of SG1 to watch from my dvd collection takes time but is well worth it). The Music addition made getting an ipod just stupid as this one system can do a combo of what others can have. The fact that Xbox 360 has even made the psp compatiable with it. (which in my book is brilliant) PSP is a great system and while the DS Could be great is so far has fallen abit short. Time will tell in the end

I personally think both systems are a flop. If you look at the sales records, I don't think anyone's trading in GBA/DS goods for PSPs. DS and PSP sales are in decline. I think people are finding that portable gaming just has no comparison to console gaming, and isn't worth the money. It really isn't that fun, and their LCD screens aren't that good. Seemingly how you can buy an XBox or PS2 for the same price as a DS, gamers are probably buying the system they don't have yet instead. For sales supported by portable gaming, the Gameboy Advanced still has the most consistant numbers; it's cheap and has a lot of good games.

The DS was a fantastic idea, but I don't think developers know what to do with it. Gamers cheaply label it as a kiddie system, but that is merely because the main games for it are games that were initially for kids (Mario, Kirby, etc.) However, games such as Goldeneye, Tiger Woods, & Castlevania aren't really that "kiddie". Another problem is that very few of these games use the DS's abilities. Trace Memory (Another Code) did utilize the DS's uniqueness but it was too short.

The PSP is a pretty system, but it really isn't that impressive. For having similar specs than the PS2, it still seems to be poor in comparison. Some games don't have noticeable loading times and others really do. I'm still waiting for a really good game to play on it. Most games I have played on it showcase the graphics, but the gameplay leaves much to be desired. Coded Arms seemed highly over-rated by gamers and appropriately rated by game magazines (not great). I will give props to Lumines and Mecury; those are great games.

Hopefully the number of pointless ports decreases for both systems...

I have had a NDS and was an inch close to also buying a PSP but changed my mind. I decided I really don't like portable gaming all that much. Besides, my room mates have PSPs that they don't really use. If a good game comes out, I'll just use theirs. Since my DS can play emulators, music, and movies; there really was no point on wasting money on a PSP that didn't have games I wanted on it anyway. Web browsing? I have a very nice computer for that, and my MP3 player is much smaller and more convenient than both systems.

I think both are a waste in the end, and they will lose to the next generation of consoles. Why spend 150,250$ on a silly portable device when you could buy an XBox 360 for $300 in a couple months?

For now, I'll just stick to playing my XBox and PS2.

well you are right about the graphics but the keyword there is "portable" I'm always on the subway either on the way to work or on the way to someone's house. I love taking my psp everywhere i go because i can do a number of things that when i get to my stop it feels like "damn that was quick" My psp is definitely going to come in handy when i travel to my country because when i'm on that plane for 4 hours watching a boring ass movie it feels like hell. I'll just rent a couple of umd movies and maybe buy a game and download some episodes of my favorite shows on my memory stick it'll make the ride much smoother. My only complaint is the battery life it is kinda short depending what you're doing with it. So i'll definitely have to put down some extra cash to get another when i plan to travel.

yeah i also agree with nuttin_88 its great for travel because this summer i went on the greyhound from chicago to dallas and i tought ill just take my psp then i rememberd that the batery drains quickly and 10 mins. b4 i got on the bus i checked battery life and it was 100% and time was 4hrs then i thought of turning of baclight to second lowest turned of th wlan switch and im not sure what else then checked battery again and it was either 10 or 14 hrs and it lasted me till 10 mins b4 we got to the Bust station in dallas so it ws pretty sweet

also some thing else good about the psp is the synchingup thats going to be featured on new upcoming titles so if you really like a game thats on ps2 and psp and u have to leave somewhere but your really far or real into it you just take it on the go and hopefully the ps3 will have more features for the psp
like i heard that you can use the psp as a remote but it uses infrared and the ps3 uses bluetooth so well have to wait and see

GBA still has better games than both the systems. I didnt realize how long it takes for a handheld system to pick up the pace of games when I got my psp. I mean it's been almost a year and there's like less than 40 games out for it. And honestly I only find around 5 of them worth playing more than a few mins at a time. I think the DS is a better system honestly but.. Since sony's psp is so easily crack and hacked for everything you can possibly think of it's definatly a better system.. not legally speaking of course :) I dont use my system besides being a few feet away from my pc but if I was going to take it places I would rather have my ds. Pricing is just bad with the psp also. It's a real wallet burner :)

PSP is by far better than the DS. I own just about every console/gaming device out there from the Atari 2600, on up to the XBox, including the PS1 and 2.
I don't have the DS, but I do have the GB, and the GBA, and I wasn't that impressed with them. While they both are portable, the PSP offers alot more, albiet for a larger pricetag as well, but you get what you pay for.
