hi,
yup i have both consoles(i bought both on the release date). my plan a was to try out the ds and if it was gud enough i wud allow the psp. well ive got a psp and it spekas by its self. Nintendo unfortunately is starting to loose the plot for me...it has some classics but not enough for my liking. i think you shud follow each brand by its nature:Nintendo-mulitplayer
Sony:choice of games
Microsoft:Graphics and multiplayer.
thats how i see each manufacturer above...and back tot he question sony has definatley won the battle of the third genertaion portable consoles.

PSP......Well it will give you something to think about. You wont have to choose between an i-pod, gaming machine or a movie player this x-mas because the psp gives you all of the above. too bad the batteries run outb efore you can put these features to any good use. If you are into epic games, buy a ds. Psp has.....GTA........... i've played the psp and I can say it's games are kind of inferior gameplaywise to the ds's. I played spiderman on the psp, Kinduh boring. Probably still better than spiderman on the Ds. I want the ds for it's official nintendo games animal crossing is a game that will addict you so bad it should be illegal. Viewtiful Joe.... Come on! Sonic the hedgehog DS. It looks promising and the graphics for that game seem to be as close to the psp is ds can get. Psp is great for all it's other wonderful features, but it's weak in it's games. Psp has internet acess. Thats really cool but you can only check your emails and type, and typing is rater hard. You can go to any website though and I'll say this net feature is pretty nifty. Too bad it's only out for wipeout. Psp got a price drop.......still not really worth it. Ds's games are for the kid inside the adult. They will be more addicting than anything sony could dish out. I've played kirby canvas course, which really didn't interest me before i played it off my friend's ds. For the 10 seconds my friend let me play, I was in heaven. I suggest, instead of the psp, buy an i-pod video. It does just about everything the psp does(except games obviously) but it does these things better. Better yet, If you want videos, music, pictures and relatively ok games... buy one of the newer cell phones.

PSP whoops da DS a$$.

1. More features eg music, photos, movies, internet
2. Easier homebrew. DS HB is crap and expensive, eg Cartridge readers...
3. looks better heaps
4. the DS cartridge only holds like 32MB Flash Memory. The PSP UMD holds maximum 1.8GBs ROM and there are various Memory Sticks 32MB-2GB. Plus the Datel 4GB, and if modified, up to 200GB.

For the GameBoy being successful, in 1989 to now, the GameBoy was very sucessful becuase it was cheap and popular. The GameGear, Atari Lynx, they were all dinosaured becuase they were expensive and unpopular. When there was onlt the Huge, Chunky old b&w gameboys, there was the atari lynx. It was 16-bit colour sceren LCD, similar to GBA. We just (a few years ago) got the GBA but we could have got similar graphics many years ago with the Atari Lynx! It's becuase they were very expensive, and the olden-days-LCD-technology was crap - the liquid usually leaked and the screen easily cracked.

PPL speculate the PSP might win coz it's so uber1337, but the DS might win becuase the PSP, even if it's so uber, its very expensive. The GB was craap compared to the Lynx. The GB won. The DS is crap compared to PSP (the graphics suck, no good features, only a messenger service and good battery) but we dunno yet who will win.

PLUS a 1.5 PSP is ALSO a SNES, GBA, Genesis... and soon in the near future, there will be a DS emulator!!! Instead of a touch screen, the analog stick will control a cursor.

WHO CARES about 2 screens? Who CARES about a touch screen? My HP iPAQ rz1710 Pocket PC PDA has one! it's not that fun! Plus you must use the stylus or your fingers will smudge the screen! PLUS the graphics suxx0r!

I was told to change my sig so I did this.

How fun is playing ds on your psp? How will you possibly lift up the stylus? What's the point if it won't be compatible w/ other ds's. And ut might take years for programmers to develop a working emulator for the ds, so don't get your hopes up. PSP indulged me because of it's other features. Hey, lets face it, you can't fight conveniance. I want a movie viewer, gaming machine and music player all in one. But then (me being a gamer and all) I said no to the PSP due to it's lack of good games. Nintendo whips up good games in no time. PSP is great, if you wanna get robbed, or have it break or get scrattched in a matter of days. even though the psp is convenient, it's price tag isn't, and it's not worth the money. Have fun playing nintendo 64 on your psp..... while I play n64 and MUCH MORE on my ds. For it's price tag, I'm getting my money's worth. Remember.... ds just had plain fun games. I wish the the ds looked better though. But really think about it. Katamari Damaci is an excellent game and gets good ratings on most websites. It launched on ps2 but now, instead of launching on psp, it's lauching on DS. "Why?", you ask? Because nintendo is known for great games like that. It can keep you more entertained on a boring flight than the psp ever can. Psp, might entertain you.. for about 2 minutes before the batteries die.

I'm a nintendo fan and i can't deny it....... But I was about to buy the psp until I found out, it aint worth my money. Have fun with gta, that psp puzzle game everyone likes and the (slightly boring) metal gear acid, while i have fun with. Animal Crossing, Sonic DS, Viewtufl Joe, Kirby canvas curse, Nintendgos, Advance wars, Mario & luigi 2, The new mario platformer, Mario kart ds, Metroid, and soooo much damn more. I was about to take the psp plunge when I found out i was just gonna buy it to play videos and music. I'll just get an i-pod and a ds. Good games + good music.

Yes I'm biased.. i know.

NO!

I left a post a few months back about the lack of games & support for DS. In that post I said that I was disappointed with the Nintendo and their product. After being told that everything would change soon, and Nintendo was about to launch a blitz around Christmas - let me share with you my findings:

Dick Smith Electronics has dumped all Game Boy, Game Cube and DS product - The end, Finito.

Myer & David Jones are not interested in selling Nintendo - Full Stop.

EB staff is saying "Nintendo Australia is lazy, and doesn't care about the Australian market" and hence there management don?t want to hold much stock.

JB Hifi has a shitty little display with some discounted $35 Nintendogs - THATS IT???? THAT WAS THE BLITZ I'VE BEEN WAITING A WHOLE GODDAM YEAR FOR???

Ladies & Gentlemen it is official - NINTENDO SUX NINTENDOG BALLS - AND DIED. I Want my money back!!!!!!

Revolution???? A revolution would be for Nintendo to actually make something that?s worth more than 2 cents. Sack all the staff and hire some people who know what we want and are capable of delivering it!

To the poster above: Who are these people, I've never heard of them, I couldn't give a sh*t that some lame store dumped nintenod products. It's their loss. You'v probably never played nintendo ds. You only have the right to talk when you've played both. Get far from this forum and go to your corner of the wall. You're just mad ds is owning PSP nationwide (except the UK of course). How could mostly everyone say they think psp is better and yet, psp's sales are plummetting? Sony is into debt and using the money from their electronics dept to cover the loss. Nintendo all the while is reporting mass profit. Hmmm. No... a magical warlock bought all those DS's. "Ds is for 3 year olds"... well it might not be too smart to gear your handheld toward adult gamers. Lets face it, most of our parents aren't gamers. My dad borrowed the psp from a co-worker and said it was neat, but not something he would waste his money on. Whether or not your care he said that, is up to u.

These are the facts.

THEY ARE COMMON STORES IN AUSTRALIA, BUDDY.

WE DON"T HAVE your FANCY stores from the UK here.

You RIP us for our stores and I'll report you to the DIMIA, buddy.

Also PSP has a faster clock speed (266MHz def, 333MHz Max comp to 100-somethingMHz), more internal memory (256RAM/256ROM comp. to RAM/ROM on the cartridge only)

I was told to change my sig so I did this.

every freakin time someone starts a "this vs. that", they always end up with someone fighting about it. why is it not ok for one person's opinion to be different than someone else's? i personally think the ds AND the psp both suck, but thats just my opinion, it aint like i give a rats ass if anyone likes either. i'm certainly not going to get upset over someone not liking what i like. there was another guy in history that was like that named Hitler, and look how he ended up!

I love my psp but the DS is solid as well especially with the new mario kart game. That game is sweet man, but I'm happy with my psp, even though it is kinda pricey and so are some of the games in comparison to the DS, and I wish I had a 2 gig stick to go along with my 1 gig but x-mas is coming up so maybe someone will be in a giving mood. But as with anything it comes down to what you like, but both are good in their own rights.

I don't think they are equal they are just different and it's all about what you like, I wouldn't rip on anyone for buying a DS or a psp if it is what they want and are happy with it. They are both good portable systems in their own ways, sure the psp can do more but my brother had a gameboy advance with mp3, ebooks and pictures on it so there are mods for everything if you are willing to look for it. So I really don't think anyone should get overly upset about this topic as it isn't that important or life changing. To each their own and if you are happy with either system then more power to you.

Not even fair to compare the two as the PSP does so much more and better I might add ...

I have owned both and the DS was sold within a week as it just did not do it for me,now the PSP is a sweet machine, the games need to pick up but I will assume they will and are more actual games and not ports..
There are good games out now and as I speak I justput down socom and have been enjoying it thoughly...

But if you are into the cartoon and old style graphics and wee screens and the same ol crap get the DS and when you realize it blows,go buy a PSP ..

They call the ds "gimmicky" when you have a damn portable with a freekin widescreen movie veiwer. You can't compare nintendo ds's games to socom. Metriod exceeds socom in many ways (except graphicaly of course {damn fanboys}). Sure socom might be a quality game. That's another quality game added to the psp's "oh so impressive" list of games such as...

1.GTA
2.Socom
3.Grand theft auto

P.S. You sold your DS. I highly doubt that. If you did, you're probably cursing yourself out right now. Compare every ds game's rating to every psp game's rating. A DS game's average rating is 8.8 while psp's is an 8.1. From what I've seen so far in ratings anyway. Psp wouldn't be up to 8.1 if it weren't for GTA oh and "So-com" (ya right..)

I HOPE THAT WAS A JOKE, WHOEVER GETS A PSP OVER A DS IS DISTURBED.

Now I'm gonna make a valid point, PSP is garbage. Come out with something NEW PSP! I'm tired of playing my ps2. Now your planning to force feed it to me in a smaller portion with some side dishes that even it out? Na I'm not for that. I want something NEW, not something over-played. Psp IS garbage. They just added a multimedia function to that garbage and sold it out.

i have a psp

and although i love my lickle black box

i am if i am truely honest im a little disapointed.

all the points above are valid.

the psps game list is well for want of a better word sh**

there are very few decent games out IMO

i havn't played a ds although i have seen one being played. i had a GBA and i liked that but it just never felt good enough

IMO the psp (At this moment in time) is the same. its just not good enough.

i spend my days browsing forums to find out when they finially crack 2.01 so i can finally get emulators on it. so finally it may just be good enough

all in all neither console is worth getting exstatic about. there both good. although the features of the psp are better

but neither are good enough

Ape escape for psp intruiged me, but I'd rather have mario and luigi. I never liked mario 64 ds because it reminded me too much of sunshine (which a played first) and it felt kinda bootleg. I did on the other hand become addicted to the minigames and like playing against friends but that's it. But the new games for the DS look impressive. And the new 2-d mario looks RADICAL!

LMAO, there's always some retarded kiddie out there that will start these "vs" threads.

Why does one have to be better than the other? They both offer different things, and that fact is hammered home by not only the pricing, but the specs aswell. Wait until february if you don't think the psp is as powerful as the ps2, once the games use the full 333mhz, (around, if not more power than the ps2 puts out[RISC, or reduced instruction set code]) we can expect to see fully 3d environments etc, ie GT 4 mobile.

The gameboy on the other hand has games that target that strange gamer who's half kid half japanese, i mean really, half the games on the DS are just crap, lower price point or not i'd never play those games. Besides metroid, how can the list of games stack up against the psp? ANd get your facts right people, just cause your psp store only has 30-40 games for sale doesn't mean shit, there's over 240 games out for the psp as of right now. Prolly more for the DS.

And if you don't believe me on that list, here's 183 or so of them:

I once was a nintendo ds fan...I supported it, fought for it, did everything I could. Got one a month right after it came out, put a hassle on the man running the house...the competition, I thought was tough, hard, and long. And, it was for about a week or two. I tried to hide the pride in when everyone else go a psp while I played with the ds. I knew nintendo wouldn't fail me. But deep down inside... I knew it did...at least on the hand held market. You could of thought that nintendo would have at least room for a small analog stick. but...anyways...all thats gone now... Huge game list for the psp. Too bad they all suck. If anyone with nothing to do, looked up the ratings for those games, they'd be mediocre compared to DS's games. To the poster above, deep down, you know that you shouldn't have sold your ds. What is it that you're doing now with your psp? Playing music (I recall reading) Why aren't you playing your games? HAH! Point made. and kid..... get an i-pod.
For any who've seen or played mario & luigi superstar saga, you know how good it is. I mean it was made partly by SquareEnix, the folks who helped bring you FINAL FANTASY!. You're saying you're going to abandon the company who is partly responsible for !!!kingdom hearts!!! by not buying mario and luigi for the DS!? Seriously. The people who bought psp aren't real gamers. You guys are more like the type of people who would say.. "I feel like playing a crappy game at the spur of the moment because I have nothing better to do."

you have put down every single person in here that has said 1 positive thing about the PSP. Does your daddy own stock in Nintendo or something? People are entitled to their own opinion, you can have whatever little spiffy hand held gaming device your little heart desires and no one really gives a crap except you. In this forum you need to get down off of your Nintendo high horse before you are totally removed from it. If joe-User wants a PSP thats ok, joe dont give 2 shits about the hand held you play, let him play what he wants.

I laughed out loud when i read that post, well written man, i love the imagery.

Is it just me or are the scores for the psp a tad harsh, i mean it's like they're trying to compare it to a home console and then bagging it when it doesn't measure up... Ofcourse that could just be fanboism talking, but i really don't agree with most of the scores, that's all. I own close to 30 psp games, and play them regularly, infact i stopped playing the pc (tho i am going through withdrawals from not playing juiced online lol) and xbox, so that has to say something for the quality, and the fact that we watch movies and listen to music, has nothing to do with the games, we do it cause we can, ds fanboi. lolz.

Regarding Australian Retailers dumping Nintendo.

Your Question: Who are Dick Smith Electronics, Coles-Myer, David Jones Dept Stores, and Electronics Boutique? and Why is the fact that they have dumped Nintendo so important?

Answer:
Dick Smith Electronics is part of Woolworths and is the 2nd largest retailer in Australia. Coles Myer is #1, David Jones is the 4th largest, and Electronics Boutique is probably the largest "games only" retailer. Plus: Harvey Normans Discounts (the 3rd largest) also doesn't sell Nintendo any more - So the top 5 retailers in the whole country say Nintendo Sucks. CONGRATULATIONS FOR THE GOOD JOB NINTENDO AUSTRALIA! GIVE YOURSELF A PAT ON THE BACK.
