Hi,

I use DVD Decrypter to rip the .VOB files off my DVDs into single .VOB files for each film on my PC server's hard disk.

I watch these .VOBs on my TV via my Pinnacle Systems Show Centre 1000g media player, which streams these .VOBs from my PC server across my wirless network.

The .VOB files are about 4-6GB in size and my 250GB HD is now full!

(I have previously tried encoding the movies as MPEG4 which seems to spit out files 2GB in size, but the encoding takes ages and the films don't always turn out with the correct language/soundtrack!).

I would therefore like your recommendations on what my options are...

Many thanks, __spc__

store your files on medai that's what it is for an extra hd is convenient for housing extra large files such as movies and an external is easy to get up and running this would keep your systen resources clean and keep you from using the virtual memory on your original hd you can find good deals all over the net but if you are in the states I read fry's is selling a 250 gb hd for around 100 bucks after rebates!

Use AutoGK to convert your vobs into avis that take up between 700-1400 MB of space and are still excellent quality.

Here is a guide

http://rita.lt/guides/AutoGK_DVDtoAVI.htm

On my bad P4 2.8 processor it takes an 1.5-3 hours to encode, but i hope you have a better processor:)

Hmmm, I think the projected AVI size was much bigger than the starting VOB - so have abandoned; thanks anyway.

You can set the AVI size, are you folowing the guide? There is NO WAY an AVI should be larger than vobs. I have used auto GK before with no problems, just try it again.
