Hi all. I had this project that looked simple enough but ended up taking many many trial and error, so I am hoping someone could suggest better method.

Basically, I had this movie that was encoded into XVID/ac3 with vobsub ribbed idx/sub and had been split into two files, and I wanted to join/lower the bitrate/encode audio to aac/ burn-in the subtitles to watch on my PDA.

After many screw-ups, I finally got it by jumping through way too many hoops. First I ripped the audio tracks with besmart into wav's then joined them. After than I joined the idx/sub files before burning in the subs in virtualdub while lowering the bitrate and joinging two split files in full processing mode. I also stripped out the audio while doing that. Finally, I used the avimux to re-mux the aac audio track and the new video track with burnt-in subtitles.

It works okay but seems like more steps than I really need. If someone could give me some advices, I'd really appreciate it.
