Maxell DVD-R Made inJapan/Taiwan?

Is there any noticeable difference in quality of Maxell DVD-Rs Made in Japan or Taiwan?

I've burned quite a bit of both japanese and taiwanese maxells and can't tell a difference on my benq's. But 2 of my other burners had trouble with them: HP 640c and I/O Magic 16x-EMPA built drive.

It's usually a firmware issue,so you may have to get the latest update for your burner.

I usually buy them when they are on sale and both the taiwanese and japanese spindles are usually all mixed together.For the same price,I try to get the Japanese hitachi's maxells instead of the riteks.

Both are very good,but some burners may have trouble with either the hitachi or the ritek MID codes.

Has Maxell quit making the 8X -R that code out as Maxell RG03?
Or do the MIJ code as RG03 and the MIT as Ritek G05?

I ask that because my firmware and burner do better with the RG03 vs the Ritek G05..

They still make the mxlrg-03 gold tops,just not a whole lot of them.Majority of the -8x goldtops are rite-g05.They were both ok in my benqs.I find them at office depot and wal-mart.

I booktype my backups,so I don't buy dash media anymore,but I still check the country of origin on those maxells for both formats.
