I had installed and successfully burned several dvds using dvd shrink. The following day, my computer will shut down during the encodin process. I have run norton to ensure I have no viruses. Any thoughts.

It could be several different things.

How many programs are running during the encoding process? This process is very processor intensive make sure you have nothing else running while doing your encoding.

Could be your PC is getting to Hot also?

If your running XP try doing a restore to an earlier point when Shrink was working fine and see is you still have the same problem. If you do it probably is a hardware issue (Over heating most likely) if you don't have the problems after a restore then that would point to a software issue. Then you just need to insure all your drivers and firmware are up to date and basically clean up the system also run a defrag on your hard drive(s)..

Cheers

Thanks for thw advice, however with norton running,I could not restore to an earlier point, I did restore all of the files though. The system temp is running around 55 degrees C.I also attemted to do the same with Nero recode 2. Had the same results. I sent a message to tech support to see if they can help. If they do I will post the solution. Until then then, any other ideas?

How about we go back to some basics?

You have been able to "back-up" DVD's already. Are all those files still on your HD? You have to have enough empty HD space to work with DVD files.

You mentioned "Norton". OK. Good for virus's. What have you done for "Spyware"? Spyware does not occupy that much disk space. It can use up a lot of other resources. Like RAM & CPU.

Take heed of what bbmayo said. Once you start to back-up a DVD, hands off the computer. Period

Take the side off the case (or even both sides) and then run DVD Shrink, see if it the computer still reboots with the sides off.
