hi guys. newbie here. found you guys through a friend.

i know that most of this site and forums focus on computer dvd burner issues, but i'm having an issue with some hardware.

so i have a dv-r/cable box (scientific atlanta brand) subscription through a local cable company. though the box has "copy to vcr" capabilities, i don't use vcr tapes much. so i bought a component dvd-r. the first one was a panasonic brand, and the quality sucked. traded it in for a sony dvd-r, and the quality was much better. the problem is, when i go to record things from pay-movie channels, i get this "cannot record copyright-protected material" msg. went back to the store and got some go! dvd converter to use between the two components, and still nothing.

i really want to own a dvd-r to record things from tv, but i'm not wanting to keep hardware and not get 100% of my investment.

any suggestions? any thoughts whatsoever would be greatly appreciated. thanx in advance for your help.
