I attempted to use Ridata media to burn backup dvds and they got all screwed up!!!! Half way through the movie the audio goes out of sync and the video skips or gets pixalated!!!!! They are complete garbage..... I have switched to Verbatim dvds and have not had a single problem with them PERFECT BACKUPS .....Ridata is generic GARBAGE and I regret buying a 50 pack of these things

You should have post this on the DVD-R/+R media forum. Anyways, welcome to the media world. Now that you've learned your lesson, please tell other newbies to stay away from cheap, junk, crap and unknown media brands alright.

I would only recommend top notch media such as genuine Taiyo Yuden (including both Fuji & Sony "Made In Japan"), Maxell "Made In Japan", and Verbatim for dvd movies backup. Other than that, don't ever get your hands on them period.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

I would not say that, it is second class media accorging to Digital Faqs

http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

I have used Maxell which is Ritek and Ridata Dual Layer media with excellent results. Maybe you ought to check and make sure your burner firmware is up to date.

I would have to agree with Arniebear. Your own experience in this case does not really call for the conclusion you have reached. It is quite possible that the media you were using (the Ritek) were perfectly fine, and you just missed some other possibilities.

-The Ritek and Ridata discs have mostly proven to be "almost as good" as the very best (the very best, of course, would be those discs manufactured by Taiyo Yuden and those discs manufactured by Mitsubishi Chemicals). For the most part, Ritek has carved out a niche of being "right behind them," generally thought to be in second place, or "second class media." In fact, for years they have been cited as being a "best bang for the buck," since they tend to cost less then the media which is considered first class.

There is a lot of media out ther generally ranked as "third class," and "fourth class." Ritek is typically NOT ranked anywhere near those names.

This (Ritek's reputation) is all still true, even acknowledging the problems they had briefly with the GO5 8X discs, which they promptly fixed. The company acknowledged their errors in a press release / interview, something rare in the corporate world. True, some of the lesser discs certainly got out in the market, but as near as I can tell, based on all reports, their stuff has now "bounced back."

You MIGHT have a burner that does not "like" the Ritek discs. Just as there are burners that do not like DVD-Rs very much (Lite-On, for example), there are burners that do not like certain manufacturers, due to the write schemes which need to be used.

You MIGHT just need a firmware update to correct this problem. The write scheme your burner needs to use for the Ridata may have been a bit problematic in the firmware, and many manufacturers quickly find such problems when consumers flood them wih problems, and promptly fix them with a simple firmware update. This happens so often that some manufacturers seem to be releasing new firmware as often as once every month or so.

There are other potential causes, as well, but the above two are so common that I probably would have at least checked prior to investing much money in a new type of disc.

To declare them "garbage" seems a bit of a rush to judgement, based on your report. I could as easily declare them "the best" since I have had more than 450 success stories with them on two different burners, but that would also represent a brash rush to judgement. They are not the "best"; neither are they "garbage."

Just my thoughts,

-Bruce

I have used Ritek Media with Excellent results, just today I bought some Maxell DVD-R 8X media, MID Code RITEKG05. These burn Great & Playback Quality is Superb! There is this though: Not all DVD Writers like the same media. AND, one needs to keep up to date firmware too!I ahve LG Multi-Fomat Drives & they Love RITEK, Verbatim, Sony, even TDK. But I DO have the latest firmware. I would never agree that Ritek media was no good. On the contrary, I think they make First rate Media.

Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

Out of 500+ burns to Ridata discs, NONE failed and all are still playable. I'm with the others, there may be more than the discs at fault here.....

I too had this problem with G05 but only with movie backups they will play fine on my computer and my cheaper DVD player in my room. But when i go to play them on our lounge DVD player expensive sony crap, i get the exact same problem as mzoopa.

From reading Bruce999 sounds like just a bad batch.

@mzoopa hi :)
i will answer you in the same vein as your post
there is NOTHING wrong with RIDATA which is RITEK Corp's own brand media.
i use nothing but RITEK and and after several thousand burns rate them on a par with the few VERB's that i have used. as to TY's i can't comment never haveing used any.
your problem lies else where.
i take it from your comments that you will be throwing the rest in the bin.
don't do that, send them to me and i will even pay the postage, so that they won't get wasted
@ arniebear hi :)
not only that, but mzoopa never seems to answer his/her post when it is answered

agree with all the other Ritek supporters here...500+ on Ridata Ritek G05s ONLY~!, i haven't even used the other ones, i stuck with the one that worked from the very beginning...these were burned over 2 years ago and they still playback flawlessly...paid a premium for 8x DVD-R media when they first came out, but, it was money well spent~

im thinking a bad batch for the original poster or other user related issues...

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

Hmmm... were these (Ritek) discs DVD-Rs, or were they DVD+Rs?

@Bruce999

mzoopa is using +R disks

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/212643

I am not sure if these are booktyping correctly because this could be causing the playback problem.

@arnie hi :)
yes you could be right, if it is a booktype problem ,if he did a straight burn as a +r and it did play, it would point that way
@mzoopa hi :)
nothing wrong with your drive it's exactly the same as mine

@ arnie hi :)
just checked a sample of my RiDisc's (can't do 'em all, 200+ here at mo)
and they all ID G04-4x
but then your across the pond i think
they wouldn't be so cheeky as to ID them differently for a different continent ...would they???
