Hi Dan,

There is more than one way to remove "extras" from your DVD. If you want to keep the menus intact then it can get rather complicated.

Removing items from the DVD changes the file structure which will disable the menus. Without the menu the movie starts playing as soon as you put the DVD in the player.

To simply keep the main movie only and discard the menu and extras you would select Reauthor from the top row of icons.

Once you do that, just drag the Main Movie Title 1 over to the left.

Whatever you drag over will be added to the DVD in the order you drag it over. You will not have a functioning menu even if you drag the menu over. The DVD will simply begin to play the titles in the order they were placed.

To keep the compression to a minimum, make sure you disable un-needed audio and Subpicture streams. Uncheck the boxes on the right. Make sure you keep at least one Audio track!

I usually keep AC-3 5.1-ch English and get rid of the rest.

There are other programs and techniques that will allow you to remove extras and keep the menus. You can do this with Shrink by replacing the removed "title" with a still picture for example. The still picture takes up a lot less room.

To do this with Shrink try this:

Put your movie in and open with Shrink.

When the movie is done analyzing you end up with a list on the left, under Full Disc Backup.
The first item on the list is the name of the movie. Below that are the various parts of the movie, each with a + box on the left. Clicking the + box will expand the item, which will show the titles the item is made from. For example if you "expand" the Main Movie, it should show Title 1. Note that Menus are made up of "Menus".

Try clicking and expanding everything. This will reveal the title structure of the DVD. You can now see the duration and size of each individual title.

To remove something while keeping the menu operational, first you need to figure out what you don't want to keep.

With the Extras expanded, click on one of the titles to select it. It will turn blue. Start the Preview window. The selected title will play.

To convert it to a still picture, use the drop down menu on the right, below "Video". By default it says "Automatic".

Here you will find the various compression options.

Still Pictures for example will convert the selected title into a series of still shots. This will reduce it's size substantially.

Other options include "Custom Ratio". By increasing the compression on a specific title, compression on the remaining titles is reduced. This may not work if a movie is already compressed heavily. (Like yours).

"Still Image". This replaces your title with a picture. You can select the default Shrink image or choose one of your own.

Note that regardless of the option selected, the duration of the title does not change. If you replace a 12 minute title with a still image for example, then that image will display on your DVD for 12 minutes. The size (MB) will be much smaller though.

The best thing to do is experiment.

Shrink is limited in that you are not actually removing items, just modifying them. There are ways to do this with other programs that will allow you to remove the unwanted titles completely and still keep the menus. Try this first though. It will help you if you want to use more complex techniques later.

Frank

Try changing these setting in DVDD:
Tools > Settings > ISO Write tab unclick 'Lock Volume - Exclusive Access'
&
Tools > Settings > Device tab unclick read, write & erase under 'Lock tray During'
See if that helps

Decrypter needs exlusive access to run correctly. You may have some other program running in the background. This may be some sort of packet CD writing software like Nero InCD.

One thing to try.

Before using Decrypter do the Ctrl Alt Del thing to open Task Manager.

Click Processes Tab.
Click "User Name". This sorts the processes so you can turn a few of them off a bit easier.

Now at this point you should be able to see all the processes (Image Name) with your User Name beside each one. You can safely disable all of them that have your User Name. You do not want to disable explorer.exe though!! If you do that you will not be able to use Windows. I know! Also do not disable any LOCAL SERVICE, NETWORK SERVICE or SYSTEM processes.

So now you need to figure out which program is causing the conflict. Just turn them all off execpt explorer.exe and try Decrypter. If it works OK you can turn them back on one at a time untill Decrypter errors.

I have no idea if this will help at all, it is something to try though.

Good Luck,
Frank

Edit:
Check and see if you have the "Check for Program Update" box checked. Its on the Events tab on the Settings menu. That should be unchecked as there will be no more updates and the url this is trying to go to does not exist anymore.
