they are about equal in my opinion, i use dvdinfopro since i paid for it~ so, other than that...dvdidentifier was just recently updated, so i have that installed on my comp now too...
they are both VERY good programs... :)
as long as it does the job and can accurately give you media ID coding, it's worth having at least ONE of them...
Recommended Media:
Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

i always swore by dvdinfo (monthly free version but get sick of it expiring) and recommended it loads of times a day to others, but dvd identifier lately has come on leaps and bounds so that's my fave now. plus sometimes i use kprobe2 as i have a Sony

That free trial of dvdinfopro can be a pain in the a**. It does have the pie/pif scanning test and also able to erase dvd-rw's.Those are very handy. That's about the only thing different between the 2 programs that I have taken advantage on.
gurnard:
I believe kprobe is for the liteon and re-badged lite-on drives only.Is the kprobe 2 also for lite-ons only?

@gurnard, Hello friend. I like Dvd Identifier, became just a wonderful tool in Dvd Burning. I look at DvdInfo. pro, I'm with creaky, having to mess with expiration dates sounds frustrating.

@ Movie Dud hi :)
i like your choice, yep i'm the same as you and creaky ,i dropped infopro for the same reason
@ saugmon hi :)
i've got a LITEON 16x + - DL SOHW-16933-KS04 burner and a
SONY RW DW-U19A firmware UYS1 burner in my comp
i think i read a thread where creaky (he's the man to ask really) said that Kprobe 2 worked on Liteon, so i downloaded it, and tried it, out of curiousity and it worked on both
so i assume that the Sony i use and creaky has above. is a rebadged Liteon

@gurnard, i might be wrong but all the Sony drives up from mine (dru-700a) are all rebadged lite-ons, not so sure 'bout ALL the older ones (i just look at stuff like that one a Nero log/by log basis if that makes sense), ie i'm not sure about all the sony's.

Hi there,
I use VSO Inspector v1.1 (Freeware)
It can provide me with:
- What my drive supports
- Firmware Revision
- Media ID of my blanks
- Statistics of THAT media on THAT drive.
(Stats are being collected by VSO (With your authority)
when you use their products)
- Perform a "Sector by Sector" scan and a "File Scan" of my burned media.

I use both DVD Identifier and DVDInfoPro along with Nero CD Speed (free version) .. It depends what mood I'm in .. Probably Nero's proggy is the best
