check your DMA if it is set to PIO it will burn at avery slow rate to check this open device manager and scroll to IDE controllers double click on secondary controler this will tell you if it is running DMA or PIO if it is PIO delete the controler and then reboot computer Windows will reinstall controler in DMA mode if this will not fix the problem you may have bad media aka cheap media

Hi eltipton, welcome to aD,

While checking your DMA / PIO settings should be your first step, - should it appear that your burner is set to DMA, you should checkout the following:

1. You haven't said if this is your first attempt at burning DVD's or not BUT, if this is a new internal burner, double-check to sea if it is connected via a 40-wire IDE cable OR an 80-wire IDE cable. Having an old, out-dated 40-wire cable could easily be that cause of your problem.

2. Check your drive's Firmware to be sure it is the most up-to-date available. Current firmware is a MUST !

3. Check your drives to be sure they aren't in disparate need of being defragmented.

Finally,

Check to ensure that you have a good, working ASPI layer. Communication between your burner and your software is a must.

Best of luck,

Pete

This isnt my first attempt to burn dvd's usually it does fine. Ive already checked and it is in DMA. Its not internal burner, its connected either by USB or firewire. Ive updated the firmware. And the computer was just completly restored a few days ago. But i'll try defrag and see if that will help.

Not really sure what that means.
Thanks!
