I went out and bought a new PS2 last week (after months of telling myself just to save my money and wait for the PS3!) and ordered a SlimKit with Swap Magic 3.6 discs. Once I got the slimkit I got tools A & B in with no trouble, but the new PS2's have the slot for tool C blocked. I've seen several fixes for this (bending the metal, cutting the metal, and the straw method) and I decided to try to straw method. I thought I'd done everything right, got the straw situated where it wouldn't go any further down, and booted up my Swap Magic DVD. It loaded just fine. I got to the "Load Program" screen, opened the lid, the screen changes to "Insert Bigger TOC", I put a backup of Burnout 3 in, and as soon as I get the lid closed within about 3 cm's of being closed the screen goes back to the "Load Program" screen, but says "Not a Valid PS2 Disc." I press the X button, Swap Magic attempts to load the disc (I know it's trying b/c the "cursor" over "load program" quits flashing when I hit X, then it starts flashing again a couple seconds later.), and then it does nothing. If I do the same thing, but put in a regular game (not a back up) it loads fine through Swap Magic.

So here're my actual questions. What's the purpose of the straw/tool C? I was under the impression that it was sensing that the tray was open or closed, but I'm able to open, take out a disc, put the disc back in, and close it back, all without the ps2 resetting or anything. i.e.: I let a regular game boot up, get to the main menu, take the disc out and put it back in, and then continue like normal, no problems. I've done this with and without the straw in place. So do I even need the straw at all? And if I don't, does that mean that I just have a bad backup disc that I'm trying to use? (I'm going to get another backup in a little bit and try it too, but right now it's the only backup I've got access to.)

If you get the insert bigger toc message, the ps2 knows you opened it. So, 1 or more of the pieces are not in right.

Ok, guess I'll keep fiddling with the straw for a little bit more, then maybe run to the store and buy some metal snips, open the sucker up and just cut that annoying piece out of the way all together. I'm not real keen on tyring to bend the metal while it's still inside the console. OR I guess I could just wait for MagicKeys 2 to start selling in the US.

lol, I knew I should have bought a new slimline as soon as they got back in stock after the holiday season!
