what is the exact error of the message?

CRC error? those 2 dvds might be a bad pressing or are simply dirty if shrink will not complete the analyzing portion of the encoding...
carefully clean them and see if it will go through...

the exact error you receive would help out here to pinpoint your issue.

It could either be a protection problem that is causing this, in which case then using Decrypter would take care of this, or it could be some other conflict, in which case read this thread from Digital Digest.

i found the problem ... i followed that link and did all the windows updates .. well its working now.

There must have been some kind of special encryption on the new DVDs ... i used DVD Decrypter then DVD Shrink and everythings fine.

Thx All

Glad its working for you, Hitch does have ARccOS protection but Ladder 49 has nothing special. But it is better to rip first with Decrypter in file mode to your hard drive and then proceed with Shrink that way you will be sure. Happy burning :)

AnyDVD is a driver that works in the background and breaks encryption, it makes the DVD look unprotected to other programs. You still have to use and encoding and burning program with it. Usually CloneDVD, which is by the same distributor works well with AnyDVD. You can try these programs on a 21 day free trial and see if this makes a difference. They are available at

http://www.slysoft.com

Are you still having problems in the encoding stage or the burning? Have you tried using Shrink in re-author mode and doing the movie only?

DVD Shrink didnt let me open the ORIGINAL disk up today ... the message said something like "theres no disk in"

Try downloading the free 21 day trial version of AnyDVD here:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/anyd...

With DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter not being updated anymore, this is a very good background ripper to help the majority of dvd software to rip the newer encryptions.

Download it,turn it on. You'll see a small fox icon in your lower tray. That means it's running. I usually leave it off, until DVD Shrink has a problem with a certain movie. When I turn it on,then shrink takes care of it.Usually sony movies, and sometimes columbia. Very nice program. It also rips off cd encryptions.

Now it's acting up in the burn stage:
What brand name/format/ and speed rate is your blank media?
What brand name/model#/and firmware version on your dvd burner?
What programs are you using in the dvd backup process?
What is your pc specs?
Can you post a burn log?

See if we can't get you going before you take that pc to the shop.

I too had problems with my PeeCee freezing up during reading and analyzing stage. I had set my Front Side Bus in the bios to a dangerously high amount, and never had any problems with anything until I started using DVDShrink, obviously a CPU intensive program. Once I lowered the speed I burnt 15 discs or more with no problems.

The blank DVDs im using are TDK 8x DVD-R (4.7gig)

I got a BEN-Q thats all i know (maybe yous cold tell me how to find the model on my PC through dos commandS ?

The DVD backup process .. atm because SHRINK didnt work i was using Decrypter then using SHRINK to author them.

I got a P4 3.2g / 512 DDR ram / standard audio & video card i think

And i dont know what a burn log is.

Also I neglected to say .. my PCs preformance was very slow (slower than usual)during the burning process. I still think its its a hardware problem because it use to take me 8minutes to burn a DVD now it takes 30min - 45

It's Front Side Bus actually, and basically it's the speed at which the CPU talks to the memory. The faster the better if your system can handle it. Mine could only handle so much. It's settable in the bios upon bootup.

Use that dvd identifier program I posted earlier. It will tell you the exact burner model#.It's a very good free tool.

Since it takes that long to burn,go into device manager and check on the primary and secondary Ide/Atapi controllers. They should be set for Dma or Udma if availabe. Make sure they aren't in pio mode and let us know.

----------------------------

You might have adware/spyware/virus. Also, it wouldn't hurt to defrag every couple of burns.

konfused1,
You have to be going into PIO Mode for your burn times to differ that much. Go to Device Manager and look at the secondary IDE Channel and see if DMA is enabled. If not uninstall te sec. IDE Channel by right clicking on it and then re-booting and let the OS re-find that channel.. Also d/l a free registry cleaner and clean the registry of any conflicts. You can google for one

Start out by hi-lighting the top Primary IDE Channel/right click/properties/advanced setting.

This will give you device 0 and device 1. Mine say Ultra dma mode 5 and if available on device 1.

Do the same to the other primary channel and both primary channels.I have Udma 2 on my secondary, and also UDMA if available.

Make sure they don't say pio mode.If they do,click drive tab/uninstall them/reboot/and re-check: 1 channel at a time if more than 1 channel is in pio mode.

If there's a problem, windows will revert your ata/IDE atapi channels to pio mode for safety purposes.

I've got 2 benqs, both 1620 and they do favor the plus format. My plus format backups are booktyped to dvd-rom. I haven't tried any TDK dash format, but I had trouble with the Verbatim -4x.

@Car.Mike

Sorry Car.Mike, I was trying to add my two cents to shifty's problem and copied a part of his/her quote, of course, it didn't come up as such. But thanks for the info nonetheless.

Looks like you have a HD on the primary and a DVD or CD device on the other primary. On the sec.IDE you have the other DVD devices. The one that is in PIO is the one you need to uninstall and let the OS re-install after re-booting. Most if not all HD will be in Ultra DMA mode 5 and the burners or DVD-CD roms will be in DMA 2 or DMA if available. What I do not understand is you should have a yellow flag up next to the secondary IDE Channel when you view Device manager at the start
