Hey all. I am wondering how many times a burnt dvd can be played. As well as how many burnt dvds can be played through a dvd player. Ya see I have a mess of burnt of dvds which I have created using ritek media.(The cake boxes with purple wraper, 4X dvd-R. It seems lately all of my previously burnt media is skipping now. The disks are flawless. I decided to take apart my my dvd player and check out the lazer eye. I cleaned it with a cutip it was covered in purple die from the discs. Now I am wondering , do ya think the die has become soft on my dvd collection because of the heat we have had this past summer. Are there better dvds out there then riteks. I have all of these movies now and they all skip every 10 secs now and I do not know why. If someone has any ideas on why my movies played so good before and like crap now I am willing to listen. I hope others can relate to what I am talking about.Hope to hear from someone soon. CHEERS............

maybe try re copying them on to newer discs but generally i can get about 50 to 100 complete times viewing them before they start to skip

i rarely watch movies THAT often over and over again, but, i guess i HAVE seen some of my burnt dvds at least 20 times max? i have Ritek 8x DVD-R G05s from about 2+ years ago that i tried viewing last month and they are STILL flawless...

i guess i can't really comment on "how many times" a dvd can be played as i've only watched a single dvd 20x at most~ :) but, i found it very interesting that you found purple dye ON the lazer eye, did the cleaning with a qtip help? or is it still the same?

as per your question are there better dvds than riteks, i PERSONALLY think so...Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim are the ones i currently use and i PERSONALLY consider them of higher quality than my Riteks...my Riteks are VERY GOOD, dont' get me wrong, but when you use THE BEST (in my opinion) then you never look back~ :)

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

@aabbccdd,

yeah, i got that info, that is a GOOD price, however, when i click on the rebate form link..the $7.00 mentioned in the link shows up as only 1 per household~ LOL..i never order just 100 HAHAHAHAHA, if they would honor lets say 5 per household, then we'd be in business here~ :)

besides, i personally can't STAND rebates..i NEVER get them~!! i think there is a conspiracy with my post office and my address, i don't think they like me very much, i've had MANY mail go missing lately....weird...

anyways, that is a VERY good price for TYG02s and having the confidence of KNOWING They are 100% authentic, good find aabbccdd~ good day to you all~

Some of my back-ups get pretty heavy play by the time my folks, my sisters, and all my friends get through with them. I have yet to have any fail to play. Some of my first backups (almost 2 yrs old) were a pain in the a$$ to recopy, but they were originally burnt on Memorex. Hey , I was just starting out I didn't know any better. I know my Kung Fu Hustle backup has been viewed ALOT after family/friends/kids(they have watched it 20 times probably) and all the good folks at work got done with it and it still performs flawlessly for everybody. It was burnt on Taiyo Yuden 8X dvr-r.

MS Windows XP MCE SP2, Intel P4 3.20 GHz, 2.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce FX5600, Seagate 7200 rpm 200GB HDD, Sony SDMHS93 19" LCD, Field Value
Audio Adapter Creative SB0317 Audigy LS Sound Card, Liteon models,SHM-165H6S, 167to6c, All burns exclusively on genuine Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim media!

wowzers, in short you should be able to play your backups 100s of times as long as the dvd stays in good shape and its on good media as in Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim

hi all.......sorry I posted a question then bailed but I had a truck drive down my street an hour after my post and take out my phone line which took out my dsl. 3 days later we are back up and running :) . Anyways, I cleaned my laser with alcohol and a cutip and the tip was submerged in purple. Thats why I was wondering if the heat is affecting the die on the discs er sumten. I just got off the phone with my supplier (my phone is getting a workout now) and he said they are not even making them anymore. Good-bye to ritek 4x DVD-R. He didn't know what to tell me about my problem either and said the same as all of you. That I should be able to play em till the cows come home. Maybe my dvd player has had enuf? Prolly had 300 movies put through it. How many are they good for? ( $100 toshiba )Well thanks for the insight all and if theres more I am willing to listen. Thanks again all and once again........THIS SITE ROCKS!!!..........Cheers ........:)
