How do I go about getting started to copy dvd movies to cdrw . My kids keep scratching up my dvd movies so that I have to keep rebuying same movies over and over again. I have a dvd rom player and a cdrw writer on my computer. I want to make copies of my movies so as my kids can use the copies instead of the original dvds. What do I need and what do I need to do . thank you

sjrodgers,
Welcome to the forum. Below is a guide that is in the guide section at the top of this thread. It has the programs in it that you will need and also Instructions. I would suggest that you get rid of the cd-burner and install a DVD-burner as the prices are getting really cheap. The new burner would then burn CD's and DVD's

I would if I could afford it the onlt thing I was able to afford was a dvd player. The cheapest dvd burner I could find was over 100.00. and right now I am unemployed and only have child support coming in/.

Your welcome.

Excellent, sounds like a good choice, plus Newegg is very fast, you should have it to you in under 3 days even with the cheapest shipping.

Sounds good then I will have to learn how to burn dvds from dvds. I will be removing my cdrw from my computer and then have a dvd rom drive and a dvd rom rw also. Can you copy straight from one dvd drive to another without having to rip it.

Yes, if the movie is a DVD-5 (under 4.5 GB). If not you will have to run it through DVD Shrink which compresses it down to fit on one blank DVD-r

sjrodgers,
Copying on the fly ( DVD-9)is not recommended as you will need to compress the data. Just rip it to HD and then compress the movie and then burn it. To do a movie properly you will always use the HD( although temporarily )

sj,

It is very easy, if you need more help follow this guide
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd9_to_dvdr_with_dvd_shr...

Now here is a tip i hope you follow when buying media. Buy 4x or 8x Verbatim Data Life Plus. When you burn your movie also burn AT 4x OR LESS, never do faster when doing a movie.

I hope you follow these tips, and enjoy your new burner!

received dvd writer and installed sat. Have backed up 8 movies and by using DVD Shrink and AnyDVD .it was pretty easy/ I only encountered One movie I could not back up AND THAT WAS BECAUSE OF Winn Dixie. tried decrypter and tried dvdxcopy deluxe still wouldn`t work. So I guess I will have to let the girls play the original. thanks for helping me get started backing up my movies.

I had a problem riping xxx stste of the union and because of winn dixie. I then tried DVD Shrink with AnyDVD running in the background. After I put dvd in I opened DVD Shrink and clicked re-author. clicked browse and then moved title over to big window on left and then clicked analyze . after analyze click backup. that shouild do it.
