I recently bought several Ridata 50pks from Newegg. In the past I always got RICOHJPNR01, this time I got Ritek R02. Does anybody have any experience with the R02's?
Thanks for any info, on these.

R02 is excellent media .. Depending on your make of writer and burning software, you will get the same results as you got using RICOHJPN .. Personally, my PC writer likes the RICOHJPN discs a little more (it's a Ricoh MP5240A) but my LiteOn set top recorders like the R02 a little more ..

I have noticed a little shutter here and there with the R02's, but when I backup to where it shuttered and play it agian, it won't do it. I have a TEAC DVD+RW DV-W58E burner and use Nero to burn. I guess my set up likes RICOHJPNR01's better. Does anybody know where I can get anymore of the R01's? I also bought some Ridata 8x's and they shutter a little to.

Try slowing down the burn speed. Never burn over 4x and if you were burning at 4x try 2.4x. Also is your f/w up to date?

What does that mean?
I did however find when I get ready to burn a copy it has a peed box with the choices of Max and 2.4. I set it on 2.4 and it took the same amount of time as when it is set on Max. So I guess I can only burn at 2.4.

What programs/software do you use to transcode and burn with?
Also check PIO/DMA settings. Needs to be in DMA mode. Here's a guide. http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/107928

I use DVD decryter, DVD Shrink 3.2, and Nero. It has always taken about 20 min. to decryte, about 5-8 min. to shrink, and 27 - 29 to burn. Then if I make another copy for the other kid, I use Sonic and that takes 20 min every time.
As far as the other stuff you mentioned, I have no clue. I will try to find out what mode I am in. I believe I have seen it go into the slow mode with certain discs. It errored out a few times and then it will take about 45 min to decryte, but it will get it done. Then if I move on to another disc, it screams along as usual.

You can select the burn speed in dvd shrink if you have enable burning with nero checked. After you click backup click on the burn settings tab. Note: you must have a blank dvd loaded into your dvd burner. 4x should take around 12-14 min and 2.4x probably 18-20 min. Make sure your drive is in DMA mode.

How do I figure out what firmware I have? I found a website that says the R02 are compatible with my burner as long as I have 2.0B f/w.

Hi,

Use this free little proggy and tell us the revision (that will be your current firmware) of your dvd burner. http://www.vso-software.fr/inspector/inspector.htm Nero info tool will also tell you what f/w you have.

I downloaded and ran it. In the general info top line to the right it says "revision" D.0C
Is that the F/W? If so, how do I update it, should I update it?

If that's what it said after revision then that is the f/w. I couldn't find a f/w update for a teac DV-W58C. I couldn't find DV-W58C period. I found the model DV-W58D but the f/w didn't resemble your f/w vs. You can try to google for an update or contact the manufacturer. Be careful, you can ruin a drive by flashing it with the wrong f/w.

That sounds better. D.0C TO D.0N. I wouldn't be afraid to update the f/w if it was mine. If there is a problem you will usually get a screen saying no drive detected that uses this f/w. So thats got dell f/w vs. No wonder I couldn't find any drives with D.0C f/w. I did find teac f/w update here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1827 but I would try the dell f/w update 1st.

Make sure you don't have a disc in the drive when you flash it and do not power down during the flash. Read and follow the directions closely

Make sure you don't loose power or shut down pc while flashing and be sure to select correct drive if you have more than 1. Very easy process really as you will find out once you've done it.
