What speed -RW media is prefered

for my Panasonic DMR ES-10. Will 2x DVD-RW be good enough or does it not matter? This unit does not record on +RW.

I was under the impression that the Panasonics don't like anything but DVD-R and DVDS-RAM. I guess Panasonic finally caved in. I use 8x in my DMR-E55 just fine, and it's an older model.

I got a great deal on mine, even though I can't do RW's.

Mine will record on +R,-R,-RW,and RAM, but not +RW.

It does matter, but you'll have to check your manual. DVD recorders usually have problems with faster media (some won't take 8X or 4X RWs - only 2.4X or 2X), so it's a good idea to stock up on slower media before they disappear.

As far as I was aware, the write speed of a disc does not matter to a standalone dvd recorder because it is recording video in realtime as oppose to recording data via a P.C at as fast a speed as possible governed by the spec of the P.C, the speed the disc can be written at, the speed the writer can write at and the software used.

The write speed does matter in standalones.

I know my recorder (emerson ewr10d4) will not record on a 4x Rw.

My suggestion would be to play it safe and get x2 RW's. Walmart has maxell x2 RW for $16.97. Also check office depot. They had a good deal a few weeks back. 2 15 pack Maxell x2 RW's for 19.99.

Just play it safe.

The problem has to do with the firmware of your DVD recorder. If the media is new (i.e., 16X), your recorder may not recognize it. Your manual will tell you exactly what speed it can write up to, but most models won't handle any 16X DVD+R/-Rs or 8X DVD+RW/-RWs unless you can flash your firmware.
