How do I get videos(mpg) files from a DVD?

I hope this is not a stupid question. I have lots of DVD, some of my own, where I want to use a part of the DVD or rearrange a DVD. I would like the format to be *.mpg.

I have some former DVD which I would like to arrange the order or mix up the order from what it is.

How do I do this. I do this now by playing the DVD into my computer to get a mpg file, but this is far too time consuming.

Many thanks for help on this silly question.

If I say that I really understand the question, then I would tell a lie.

So if you wnat DVD to computer why not make it AVI? -Use AutoGK
Do you mean that you want to but them to HD and make new DVD? -then u can just copy it (if its allready copy)

I'm sorry that I am not clear. Let us say I have a DVD on which has Episodes 23, 24, 26 and 30. On another DVD I have Episodes 25, 28, and 29.

I want to extract each episode from each DVD, put them in order and burn a DVD with them in the correct order.

What program would I use to extract every complete item on a DVD in somer form that I can use to reburn them?

Is this clear, I hope?

Only way that I know is this:

Use DVD Decrypter and AutoGK to make DVD to one AVI

then use VirtualdubMOD to split that AVI

then use FilmMachine or DVDSanta (or some other program) to make DVD video files what you can just burn to DVD


Does any1 know better way?

I would settle for knowing how you are "playing the DVD into my computer to get a mpg file". Is this directly from the computer's DVD player?

I know how to do with TV card (ie Haupphauge PVR-350) but dvd output sometimes is garbled due to anti-dubbing complications.

I use ADS DVD Xpress device to go from my portable DVD player or my VCR into the computer as an *.mpg file. With this I can control the brightness, contrast, saturation, and chroma. I find this very useful to be able to control these factors.
