Can someone please give me some insight into the modchip for Playstation 2 consoles ?

I have someone here who's willing to sell me a used PS2 console (Model: SPCH-50001) with memory stick for $108 (CAN) but want to upgrade the unit with a modchip. What modchip can i purchase and is it "good for all current backups and future ones" on the PS2 ? Is there anything important i should be aware of before considering a modchip?

Thanks.

DMS4 Pro or Matrix infinity
also get a laser fix while your at it
just to be safe. Mod chips are the very
best way to go, but most people just don't want to spend the money
only drawback is that a lot of sites for online play
can detect them from what i hear, which means you would have
to disable the chip and use swap magic and a slidecard
if you want to play online.

Thanks for the reply.

Why the laser fix?

And would you consider: Magic V 5K6 or Magic V 50K as they appear to be at least $20 cheaper

Thanks

I'd stick with the DMS4 Pro or that matrix chip steimy mentioned.
I've got 2 DMS4 Pro's and they work like a charm.

i agree w/ steimy and dan.

other chips have a tendency to wear the parts of the ps2 more. especially the ba/la chip a v9 has the la chip. once this goes, then it is a pain to replace it.

i would spend a little extra to not worry about it.

plus, your version should not need the laser fix.

may not need a laser fix, but why not.
It is like $7 for one. That way you are
less likely to burn anything up.
From what i read the Magic chips are just plain crap.
i read a bunch of bad forums about people and the
problems they are having with them.
