I mostly back-up my own dvd movies but lately when I both this dvd-r(maxell) it took me forever to burn just a single copy of my own movies or sometimes it says error with decypter. Do you think its the media that I'm using not my decypter??

Could be the media - is your firmware up to date? What's the manufacturer code on those Maxell's. It will be listed on the right hand side of decrypter when you load the disc to burn.
Make sure you are in dma mode and not pio mode - here's a link to a guide:

 The Maxell -R media is top notch stuff .. they should code out as either Ritek, MXL or TYG .. all good stuff ...
