I have a Philips 16X DVD+R/RW Burner and have been using DVD Decryper to burn DVDs and I cant get it to work. I have tried many different DVDs including some Memorex 16X DVD+ and some Unatuib DVD+R 8X speed. It says Cannot Write Medium - Incompatable Format. I am not sure what the hell the problem is. I just got the firmware update from Dell and dont know what to do anymore. Please help Thanks

Definitely try some better media maxell +8x/sony +8x/ fuji +8x/taiyo yuden/ or verbatim data life plus +8x.

Here's a thread to find some info on your burner. It may be the same model:

All very good suggestions and advice. I too suggest you try some different/better media.

Most any media will work for backing up files but for video reproduction you need good, proven, high quality media such as verbatum, taiyo yuden, maxell, sony mij, fuji mij (mij = made in japan), branded ritek ridata, Stay away from memorex, HP, phillips, no name, and retail store branded media eg. staples, compusa. Keep the burn speed to 4x.

Also I remember some ppl having problems with phillips drives that came in their dell pc and they called dell and got them replaced with a NEC drive. If problems continue that might be worth looking into.

You can also try a genuine phillips f/w flash if better media doesn't solve the problem but I would contact dell 1st.

Ya, it's always a good idea to have some dvd rw's around especially if you are having problems so you don't waste write once discs. I would only buy a small quantity of the rw's and when you get the problem ironed out you can get some good quality dvd+r's for less money than the rw's.

If you're buying local look for verbatum datalifeplus, sony mij, or fuji mij. I haven't used maxell personally but hear they are good as well.

For +rw's, I like the TDK. Maxell/fuji should be pretty good. I've used some memorex and cyberhome +rw's and they sucked!
