Question about trimming

Hey, since Sonic packed in on me and now won't work, I need to know if this will trim files, as sonic is the only program I know that will I looked at this, I need to fit it onto a disk, it's like 800mb and on for 100 minutes, so no chance with it all on one disk, tried that before.
So yeah, basically I need to trim it in half...I was wondering if DVD shrink will help, and if someone is kind enough to help me through it. If not does anybody else know of some sort of trimmer?

In what format is the video in? .mpeg? .AVI? other?

It is AVI
If its ok try not to complicate things as I'm not much of a genius, lol.

DVD Shrink will not open/process .AVI files.
I would recommend using TMPGEnc. Start up TMPGEnc, load your .AVI file, click the "Setting" button down at the bottom, then click the "Advanced" tab, then double click "Source range". From there you can split it in half by using the "Set Start Frame" and "End frames" button. You will need to run TMPGEnc twice for each half to make two separate files (Part 1 would be 1 file, part 2 would be the other).

Uninstall TMPGEnc, then reinstall it. That file should come with the installation.

Well I don't know much about it, I did whatever it is default as, I want to trim it, it is an AVI file.

When you start the program, cancel out the "Wizard" screen that pops up. Then down at the bottom, it will say "Video Source", at the end of that box there is a "Browse" button. Click that and load your ".avi" file. The audio should automatically load when you load the video.

first convert it to a compliant .mpeg file, then after that is when we will trim.

Hmmm, the thing that I convert on leaves this thing right in the centre of the screen which you have to pay to remove :(

Converting to a mpeg-1 is free, you must be trying to convert to a mpeg-2. You already said that has expired some time ago. So convert it to mpeg-1, then use TMPGEnc DVD Author (A different program than TMPGEnc) to create/author a DVD out of it.

TMPGEnc is free. It can covert to mpeg-1 and mpeg-2. Except mpeg-2 is on a trial version. mpeg-1 is always free.
