Your firmware is two updates behind, which is not helping you in media recognition. Go here for update. Current ver. is BYX2

Your Nero needs updating current ver. is 6.6.0.16

I might make a suggestion that if you have DVD Decrypter you use that for a dual layer back up. This program I have found handles the layer break in a dual layer backup very well. You just need to do it in iso read and then iso write mode.

I also suggest DVD Decrypter. I've seen quite a few threads about Nero having problems with dual layer media.

Dvd decrypter
Mode/Iso read
Mode/ ISO write-Locate the mds files for that movie on hard drive then click that file and then click burn icon.

Very easy.

@litebrush,

Like arniebear said that is an old old firmware. Update your dvd burner's firmware to the latest and you'll be square away. Go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1917 and click on "BYX4" to download it, that is the current firmware version for SONY DRU 710A. Once you're done with the downloading, just run the BYX4 firmware and it should automatically detects your Sony dvd writer and does its thing (NOTE: make sure you don't have any DVD or CD inside the drive when updating the firmware).

As a matter of fact, you have the same Sony dvd writer just like mine. I've had my DRU710A BYX4 (current firmware) since November 2004 and it has been doing an outstanding job burning dvd movies and PS2 games flawlessly. I highly recommend you to update the firmware -- this will increase the performances and it adds compatibility to the writer as well.

Other thing to do is update your Nero to its latest version 6.6.0.16 as mentioned by arniebear as above. Nero Ultra 6.6.0.16 will handle DVD9 (DVD+R DL) burning better. I've used Nero a few times to do DL backups successfully in the past. However, I would only recommend DVD Decrypter to do the job instead. DVD Decrypter seems to handle it better when it comes to DL (DVD9) backups. Below is a few simple steps to do your DVD9 (DVD+R DL) backup using DVD Decrypter:

**open up DVD Decrypter, go to MODE, ISO, READ R
**then choose your "source" and "destination"<--make it to your hard drive.
**now just click on "Decrypt" and wait untill it's successfully completed.
**Once it's completed go to MODE, ISO, WRITE
**again choose the "source" from your hard drive, and "destination" to your DVD burner.
**now just click on "Write" and wait untill it's completed. That's it.. easy as smoking.

(NOTE: please continue to use the same high quality DL media such as Verbatim 2.4X DVD+R DL for future backup as well.)

Other than that, I looked through the entire log and couldn't find anything's wrong with it. Once you've updated your Sony dru710A's firmware, you should be ready to proceed.

Happy burning..!!
