Hi all,

I just sent away for a PS2 system (tell me about it) and got a refurb from gamestop.com with 1 controller for 89.99 shipped. fairly good deal i feel (25VALUE is the coupon code for free 3 day select shipping). Who needs a PS3 when I've never really even seen the PS2 in action.

Basically, with this thread I want to know who ordered which flip top covers from where and who is pleased with their purchase and who has had issues with these things. I read about people having some really crappy experiences with the lids being to tight or not tight enough or the flip tops grinding on the games and making funny noises.

Please just say where you ordered from and what your experience with your flip top cover was like so that I can figure out where to order mine from. there is a sight i found that has the swap magic 3.6 software along with the flip top for 31.something shipped, so I'll most likely go with them, but want to hear what you-all have to say.

I have DVD decrypter and shrink and after a little time getting used to them, they have been awesome for archiving DVDs that X copy can't handle decoding. I also want to archival PS2 games now that ill have a system and already have two games (worms 3D which Ive heard is quite cool and Hot Shots Golf FORE (online optional).

I read in one of the how-to threads for backing up PS2 games that in order to successfully copy an online game like Hot Shots Golf, you need to extract a certain line code (DNA) or something like that back into the ISO image or something.

Please shine some light on this topic and the one about the flip tops.

MANY THANKS

I think mine was from ps2fliptop.com, bundled with Swap Magic 3.3 CD and DVD.

The only problem was that it initially made baaaad sounding noises caused by the disc slipping on the rubber contact ring of the motor as it tried to spin up.

All I had to do was swap that white disc in the top of the lid with my heavier original. Now it works perfectly. It's a tiny bit heavier so sometimes the spring won't lift the lid completely vertical when I press the release button, but so what? I sort of hit the button and open the lid in one motion anyway.

The only problem I can forsee is if you mar the orignial white disc when you're prying it out of the old top. You probably don't want it catching and not spinning. Although it may not make much of a difference, I suppose if it wasn't spinning it might eventually wear through the foil backing of copied discs.

Overall, I'd say 99.9% problem free. Swap the white thing if you need to - you won't have any difficulty.

BTW, I got the solid black. It has a perfect fit, has held up perfectly, but it has a smooth finish can show scuffs more than the original textured case. It doesn't bother me.

I got my flip top and Swap Magic seperate years ago so i don't
remember where i got them,
Most flip tops do make a loader noise due to the fact that you take the top off of the DVD drive, so it does make a bit of noise
but i have had mone for 2 years now and it still works fine.

And yes you have to patch games for online play

thanks for the input. only question is what do you mean by "only thing was I had to switch out the white disc and put in the heavier original" Aren't the white discs (swap magic) the originals?

What I mean by the white discs is the small white plastic things that are built into the lids of the ps2 case and fliptop cases. Look at the inside surface of your upper case piece, just above where the CD tray is located. It's not a disc in the sense of a CD or DVD. it's just a very slightly weighted piece of plastic (about 1 inch in diameter maybe?) that holds your CD or DVD down against the motor that spins the CD or DVD.

Do some searches for how to burn online games. I've never tried that. Well, I have copied games that originally had online play but I've never tried using a backup for online or linked play.
