Check and make sure your drives are in DMA mode. Here is a guide

What movie are you trying to back up and just what is the problem? By preparing do you mean the ripping, encoding?

what are your system specs?and are you running alot of programs when you are using shrink?I have found that even surfing the net while using shrink slows it down. You are best off to shut down all other programs when processing a movie.

Trying to burn 4,450 mg movie. I do not use the net when burning and all programs are turned off. I burnt my first movie yesterday took approx. 35 mins to complete with analysis and reading the instructions.
Now without analysis it takes 2hrs 45 approx. same size movie. I know I am doing something wrong, clicked something perhaps I should not have.. just can't figure what?

did you by any chance change the setting on the deep analysis from sharp to extra sharp or extra smooth?I think that will make it take longer also.good luck.

Yes, but what does it say in "Current Transfer Mode" box?

It can say "DMA If Available", and still be in PIO mode.

Check your DMA settings - How ? do this -> Go to Control Panel> System> Hardware Tab> Device Manager> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers> Right Click Primary IDE channel (and Secondary IDE channel after you finish with Primary)> Properties> Advanced Settings Tab> Transfer Mode or go here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101616

Do the above from both "Primary & Secondary IDE channels".

I (We) and you need to look at whats in both "Transfer Mode" and "Current Transfer Mode". Screen shot below is what I'm talking about.

If it is in "PIO" mode. Click the "Driver" tab, and uninstall the driver. Then reboot. Upon rebooting windows will automatically reinstall the driver and it should go back to "DMA" mode.

(Your screen may or may not look the same as my screen shots)
