Hey everyone. I bought some Maxell DVD+R with this code:
Maxell DVD+R 8x High Grade Video (MAXELL002). Are these any good? I noticed that the Maxell +R 4X have a code of ricohjpn, and I know these are good. But what about MAXELL002?

That is one top notch media -- it is rank #1 class along with the famous Yuden and Verbatim. The Maxell-002-00 is manufactured by Hitachi (Made In Japan). I've had tons of experiences on this midia and all of my backups are flawless.

As long as you don't have a Sony DRU-710A....that burner doesn't like 'em....

my sony 710a is ok with them :) i agree with you that the sony drive does not like them as much as say Taiyo Yudens or Verbatims; but, i fair pretty well with the maxells as i personally list them 4th of my list of media that I personally will spend money for... :)

I'm with Doc TY aka kivory666 on this case. I guess my SONY DRU710A (BYX4 current firmware) is in love with the Maxell-002-00 8X DVD+R "Made In Japan" dearly. So far so good, and nope... "no coaster" from either genuine Taiyo Yuden and Maxell yet.

My Sony burner didn't like 'em. Burns were fine viewing wise, but the PIF's were excessive at 6000+ total pre f/w update and 900+ post f/w update. Definately not up to TY standards.....

interesting how 3 identical burners fair between this media...

i guess alkohol has the BEST compatibility
im in the middle somewhere :)
and akyllonen is having the most problems w/ the maxell media...

as with all burners and setups, we all have our preferences, i just found it interesting with IDENTICAL burners, the Sony Dru-710a, that we have such varying results on the media in question....

my maxells work pretty well as i said earlier, but, definitely NOT the same high standards i have grown used to with Taiyo Yuden media...i am smack dab in the middle of your 2 opinions and i have pretty good success vs. bad scans/pixellated pictures/playback issues. :)

Maxell002 coding is decent, but, everyone's opinions will vary..so, just use your best judgement lube99, us 3 (alkohol, akyllonen, and myself all have the same burners..and you can see we have good, medium, and poor results from the media)

but for the most part, i rank maxells #4 on MY CHOICE list of media...so, it's not bad..but, not Taiyo Yuden quality :)
