my Hitachi DV-PF73U wont play DVD's. it just say disc does not have playback features

it also only plays cds so that tells me its not the laser

Yours is a standalone dvd player, right? So if it can't play dvds, can you just return it?

i've had this dvd-vcr combo for a year and a half but it quit working wo months after i bought it. i never really needed it till now
