I am looking at verbatim 16x and 8x. the 16x is more expensive but I want the best quality for my backup dvd's. Which should I choose.

16X and 8X are simply identifications of the maximum write speeds for the discs. There should be no difference in quality. As you noticed, there is a difference in price. As a general rule of thumb, video processing is very different from data backup and you should not burn faster than 4X. The faster the speed you write at, the more you increase your chances for write errors, and an unplayable disc.

So my vote goes to the 8X. Why pay more for a 16X disc when you don't plan to burn that fast?

Thanks for the info. I searched on DVD Decrypter to adjust the write speed but I couldn't find a way. Any suggestions. Thanks

Click Mode>ISO>Write
Option for write speed is there.....

I would not suggest burning your movies at 16X. Better to stick with 8X media and burn even slower than 8X. Besides, I think 16X media is thinner and flimsier than 8X media so it can be burned faster.

I think it's reverse as far as flimsy goes. It's my understanding(I may be wrong) that the higher write speed discs are made stronger to withstand the rotational forces that those kinds of speeds generate.
