Well if its for PS2 it just matters what version you have v4 and below cant play DVD+R discs but higher versions can, and most people have better luck with -R than with +R it just depends on what your ps2 likes :)

I've said this before and will say it again, I'll take any of the 8X DVD+R Taiyo Yuden (including Fuji & Sony "Made In Japan") and the 8X DVD+R Maxell "Made In Japan" over any DVD-R anyday period. Why....???? Because with the DVD+Rs you can easily book type (or bitsetting) it into a DVD-ROM format, and this is one of the safest and or best way to go. As a matter of fact, all commercial (original) dvd movies and PS2 games are pressed as DVD-ROM format.

alkohol, so if I use DVD+R disc and booktype (bit setting) it to dvd-rom then will it be compatible with all version of ps2 console? Will the ps2 console see the booktyped DVD+R disc as dvd-rom and not as DVD+R anymore? I have a v7 ps2 console and I know it can read DVD-R disc but I'm not sure if I should use DVD+R disc or not. And also will SONY 8x DVD-R or DVD+R disc made not in Japan (maybe made in China) work with ps2 console? What speed should the ps2 game be backuped at?

@Alien13 & vic99,

Yes... you can change the Book Type on a DVD+R/DVD+R DL to a DVD-ROM format using DVD Decrypter easily. However, you have to have the right burner that will support "book typing" such as SONY, Lite-ON, LG, BenQ, Nu Tech, Plextor, NEC, RICOH etc.

Here's how to book type using DVD Decrypter on DVD+R/DVD+R DL media:

01) Open up DVD Decrypter
02) go to Tools, Drive, Change Book Type (now look for your "Dvd Burner" and click on it)
03) "Change For:" arrow down to "DVD+R/+R DL Media" and Highlight it
04) "New Setting:" arrow down to "DVD-ROM" and click on "Change", click on OK (when Success), and OK. That's it... easy as smoking!!!

Below is an example of how to Book Type on a SONY DRU710A dvd buner using the Lite-On burner that is listed on DVD Decrypter:

Or if you want to burn with Nero Express or Nero Burning Rom and you have Nero ToolKit or Nero CD-DVD Speed, then you can easily change the "book type" or "bitsetting" on a DVD+R/DVD+R DL/DVD+RW into a DVD-ROM format as well. Here is how to change the "bitsetting or book typing" by using "Nero ToolKit".

01) click on "Nero StartSmart" on desktop or go to Start, Programs
02) click on "Nero ToolKit", then Nero CD-DVD Speed
03) click on "Extra tab", then "Bitsetting"
04) on "new setting", change it to "DVD-ROM". That's it and you're all set to go -- easy as smoking..!!

@vic99,

Yes... if you successfully book type your DVD+R disc into a DVD-ROM format, then it will be compatible (play) with all functional PS2 consoles. Not only that but when burning dvd movies on a DVD+R disc and "book typing" it to DVD-ROM will be compatible (playable) in all functional PS2 consoles and stand alone dvd players.

I have a PS2 version 9 which can easily play both DVD-Rs & DVD+Rs, however, I find it much much more better and safer with the DVD+Rs book typing as DVD-ROM. Like I said earlier; as a matter of fact, all commercial (original) PS2 games, and or dvd movies are pressed as DVD-ROM only. That is why "all" stand alone dvd players are capable of playing the original dvd movies, but not always on DVD+Rs -- and this is why your PS2 console will play/read the original games easily, but not always on some DVD+Rs/DVD-Rs backup.

I hope you get my drift now..!!

Hi alkohol, I have SONY DRU-800A (is it called Lite-On in DVD Decryptor?) dvd burner, does it support booktyping from dvd+r to dvd-rom format? I'm going to buy 8x SONY DVD+R discs made in Japan. At what speed should I backup my PS2 games at for my v7 PS2 console? What is the difference between dvd+r or dvd-r discs made in Japan and Taiwan, are the discs actually different? Thanks so much for all your help.

@vic99,

Most of the SONY DRU(s) are infact a rebadge of LITE-ON burners. So, yes.. when you use DVD Decrypter to book type use the LITE-ON for your SONY DRU burner -- just follow the steps I provided above, and you'll be alright. (NOTE: just remember to have a high quality DVD+R disc such as Taiyo Yuden (SONY or FUJI 8X DVD+R Made In Japan) on the burner ready to go <---- that is one genuine Yuden media.)

Or if you're going to burn any of your PS2 games and dvd movies using Nero Express, Nero Burning Rom, Nero Recode 2, NeroVision Express, then just follow the above steps I provided about changing the "Book Type" or "BitSetting" using Nero CD-DVD Speed through Nero ToolKit and you'll be square away.

You said; "At what speed should I backup my PS2 games at for my v7 PS2 console?
Honestly, I backed up all my backups at anywhere from 4X, 6X and 8X (but no higher than 8X) -- with high quality grade media like genuine Taiyo Yuden (real YUDEN are also Fuji & Sony 8X DVD+R Made In Japan), Maxell 8X DVD+R "Made In Japan" and Verbatim 8X DVD+R; you can't go wrong with them top notch media.

Yes... try to do that (use the Lite-ON) via DVD Decrypter and see if it works for you. I know yours is a OEM Lite-On SOHW-812S according to this site http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1778 - however, I can't guarantee you that it will work 100% when book typing. It won't hurt to try you know cause you might get lucky like me and end up with a "Success" book typing it. My SONY DRU710A (BYX4 firmware) is a rebadge/OEM Lite-On SOHW-1633S, and I just use the Lite-On list on DVD Decrypter and it works for me.

Another way to book type using Nero (if you use Nero Burning Rom or Nero Express to do any of your PS2 games or dvd movies), and if you failed to book type with DVD Decrypter or Nero CD-DVD SPEED.

Here's how to book type using Nero Burning Rom:
01) open up Nero StartSmart, then click on Nero Burning Rom
02) EXIT out the "New Compilation" when it pops up, then "arrow down" and choose your dvd burner
03) click on "Chooses A Recorder" (it's a small burner icon next to (I) and the arrow down)
04) click on "Options", then on "Book Type Settings", set to"Automatic" and click "OK" - that's it... easy as smoking. Now every burning using a DVD+R disc your Nero will automatically change the booktype into a DVD-ROM format.

Here's how to book type using Nero Express:
01) open up Nero StartSmart, then Nero Express
02) now click on "Copy Entire Disc"
03) click on "Options", then on "Book Type Settings", set to "Automatic" and click "OK", then "Exit" out. That's it... easy as sipping on some Corona.

Basically, you need to set it once on Nero only. So, if you book type it with Nero Burning Rom already then you don't need to do it again on Nero Express or vice versa.

Hi alkohol, sorry for being a newbie, I have some more questions. I read on one website saying that SONY's 8x DVD+R that is made in Japan has YUDEN000T02 id, so this is genuinely made by Taiyo Yuden which means it is high quality?

Do I do the steps to booktype DVD+R discs to DVD-ROM first then open up the .iso image file to do iso write with DVD Decryptor to burn the DVD+R as DVD-ROM?

I also want to backup some regular files (not ps2 files) on DVD+R by booktyping it to DVD-ROM, is it possible? And what kind of software do I need to do this? Can I do this with DVD Decryptor? Do I need to make an .iso file for the files I need to backup first? How do I do this? I need to do this because my dvd reader for my computer can only read DVD-R. It is Toshiba SDM 1612 dvd reader. Thanks.
