Initially started with DVDFab Express but found it had problems with CSS even though it detected it.
Now using Shrink with Nero and is working fine.
I'm just interested to see what everybody else was using and how it affects picture quality.
Thanks

ANYDVD by slysoft running in the background has been the KEY for all my encryption issues~ :) best investment i've ever made on software~ good luck~
note: AnyDVD runs in the background, so you can use any ripping/encoding/burning program that you personally like to use, i have found AnyDVD works for every combination of programs i have used to make my backups. have a good one.
Recommended Media:
Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

My primary backup combo is the CloneDVD 2/ AnyDVD combo. They never let me down. Shrink and Nero are good but Shrink won't handle newer encryptions and won't be updated.

My combo is as follows in this order:
1)DVD Decrypter\DVDFab Decrypter (Mainly DVD Decrypter
2)DVD Shrink (if this does not compress i will compress with CloneDVD 2
3)Burn Movies tp disc with CloneDVD 2
If i have a problem with all of these combos I find doin all three steps with CloneDVD 2 with either AnyDVD or DVD 43 in the background also does a fine job...

I have made back-ups with both DVD DeCrypt (free) and AnyDVD and they both work great. I have used these programs in combination with DVD Shrink. I have heard that the sister program to AnyDVD, CloneDVD, also works very well.

AnyDVD and CloneDVD for TV Series disks. And AnyDVD and Nero Recode for movie only. For straight copies just DVD Decrypter to rip and CopyToDVD to burn. For dual layer backups, nothing beats Decrypter.

I have to agree with kivory666. AnyDVD is simple, problem free, and unbeatable! I use it in conjunction with DVDShrink and Nero to reauthor and burn, and with DVDDecrytper to rip.
MS Windows XP MCE SP2, Intel P4 3.20 GHz, 2.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce FX5600, Seagate 7200 rpm 200GB HDD, Sony SDMHS93 19" LCD, Field Value
Audio Adapter Creative SB0317 Audigy LS Sound Card, Liteon models,SHM-165H6S, 167to6c, All burns exclusively on genuine Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim media!

I'm not sure about other people, but below is what I prefer/like. It has been doing the job flawlessly.
01) DVD Decrypter (to rip and decrypt) with Nero Recode 2 (to encode/compress) and burn with Nero Burning Rom
02) InterVideo DVD Copy 3 with DVD43 or DVDIdle Pro (cracking engine)
03) DVD Decrypter with DVD Shrink and burn with either Nero or DVD Decrypter.
In the end, it all boils down the individual's preferences and experiences. So use whatever that works for you.

Originally I used FabDecrypter but now I just use DVD Decrypter, that does a pretty good job itself. You can also try DVD43, as alkohol mentioned.

My suggestions
Put on HD using DVD Decrypter, then use Nero Recode then burn with Nero Burning rom to burn usually @ 4x
I have tried AnyDVD and CloneDVD 2, which will be my number one when new encryptions come about
Also basic users should start off with DVD Shrink 3.2 and the hand in hand Nero, It only chucks back a handful off the newer the DVDs
AnyDVD will take over!

@shavey, I'm with kivory666 that AnyDVD in the background is the best piece of software I have ever purchased. It works with virtually all programs. I use Intervideo Copy 3, CloneDVD 2, Recode 2 and they work flawlessly with AnyDVD. It runs in the background and all I do is place the dvd in the tray and watch the fox head turn to a pale red and then back to red and the disk is ready to be copied. The combo anydvd/clonedvd2 can be downloaded for a 21 day trial from www.slysoft.com. arniebear got me hooked on Recode 2. Pretty cool program. Quality is good. I personally like Intervideo copy 3, but it does have some issues with the re-authoring capabilities (that I hope will be remedied by Copy 4), but the quality is awe-some. Many programs can be downloaded for trial and I would suggest doing that to see what works well with your system.
Have fun!

Hands down, AnyDVD! This works Flawlessly with CloneDVD 2! I know, I bought both. I used to be Big on Nero Recode, still use it, BUT, CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD gives me EXCELLENT results!

The new version of DVD43Free is working "issue-free" for me with its latest release. I use it in conjunction with Recode. For my larger movies (2+ hours), I rip to HD with DVDFabDecrypter and use DVD-RB/HCEnc...

@teflonmyk, Hello friend. I noticed you used HC by Hanks. You know I have the CCE Basic, but I will mix it up and use HC Hanks (I'm really impressed by the quality of this encoder (and it's free!) just agreeing with your choice. Have a good evening.

Okay, I coughed up the 10 bucks for RB pro, now all I have to do is figure out how to work it. Tried once before with the free one but it did not work out, but that was probably me. Can either one of you guys tell me if I just install the pro over the old one, will it change any of the settings, and will the HC enc work, because I do not want the CCE watermark in the movie.

I just followed the instructions in this guide to the letter... Set up free version first. New version will not change settings. I've used it for the Star Wars series, Godfather Trilogy, etc. You know, the LONG movies....

Thanks, will set it up today, already have the free version in and used the guide for that, just wanted to make sure the pro version would go in right over. Some programs set up double. Again, thanks.

Trust me, set-up is the hardest part... After that, it is a breeze. I haven't tried the "batch" process yet, though...

arniebear, sorry for the delay, just got on line. Congrats on the purchase. I have truly enjoed the Pro over the free. As teflonmyk mentioned...anything you need let us know...you have helped me tremendously and I just want to say thankyou. I use CCE, but I have found myself using HC Hanks as much...great quality and it's free...wow! Have a good day.
