I notice that alot of online stores say that there DVD's are packed in cakeboxs. What are those? just a thin white box or what? Can they be trusted to keep my DVD's safe by the time they reach me?

There just a plastic container. If you have ever bought any media from the retail stores this is the spindle container they come in. I usually buy mine online in taped packages and the put them in my empty cakebox containers. You usually have to pay extra for a cakebox package. The cakebox will keep your dvd's safe, usually they ship them in packaging peanuts/plastic wrap.

agreed with arniebear, i have a few on the cakeboxes left from my other spindles that i purchased retail; most of the media i purchase online come in tape wrap, since i buy in bulk :)

for the most part, i think you should be fine; however, when i purchased retail Verbatims from amazon.com a few months ago, i found that their packing/shipping process to be horrendous, one of my cakeboxes was shattered upon arrival, good thing the discs were still in good shape~ :)

for the most part, i have never had problems with ordering media that were in cakeboxes, just a few lousy packaging issues IN the box they came in (not enough packing peanuts, air pillows, etc) being thrown around during transit, amazon for example, could do a LOT better job in packing their orders for shipment. :)
