Hey everyone!
I recently got my first DVD burner and want to make the most out of this device I have been waiting for so long. If I post this thread, it's because I couldn't find the answers by myself on the Internet. So I really need you all to please share your knowledge. I went to Costa Rica with my lady a few months ago and came back with about 900 JPEG and 75 MPEG movies, as I said ranging from 10 to maybe 35-40 Mb (about 30 seconds to 2 minutes). Instead of having them burned on a regular CD-R, I would really trip if I could fit them all onto a Single DVD and pop it into my standalone payer.

So, I am wondering if it's possible to create a DVD with a menu that would allow me either to view a slideshow of the pics or to choose the movies option and to have some sort of slideshow of the movies (I wonder if I could make the movie automatically switch to the next one once it is viewed)

If I cannot include both format on a DVD, how can I author the DVD with only movies? I have seen all kinds od softwares publicities on the Net about this one doing this and that and bla bla.
Do I need a software to merge all little MPEGs together??
Can I add chapters (being the various areas visited during our trip) to the project??

Since they are already MPEG, do I need to reencode them to be DVD format (like .AVI movies for example)??

There is a few movies that end up in a weird way, do you know a software that could allow me to smooth the end of the MPEG by adding a fade out effect or something like that?

I'm waiting for your ideas, suggestions and comments. The more, the better. Thank you all very very much for your time.

Hi there,

I'm sure you will receive 100 of suggestions, but here is one.

If you wish to convert all those .MPG files to DVD Format, you can use VSO DivxToDVD.

If you wish to make an awsome slideshow with music, with all those 900 pictures, have a look at VSO PhotoDVD.

They both have a built in burn engine also, so no need to purchase an other burning software for those projects.

Both trial versions are available on their website.
