DVD+R backups for V3

I have read many forum posts regarding dvd+r media not being compatable with the older v3 ps2. i just bought swap magic 3.6 the other day and i am waiting for it to arrive so i havent burnt any of my backups yet tho i did use the swap trick to play a burnt dvd video recorded on a DVD+R media it was fully compatable with no issues at all. does this mean that my ps2 will support game backups written to DVD+R, has anyone with an older systems managed to load a DVD+R backup using swap magic or someform of the swap trick?

first off you do not need Swap Magic to play a back up of
a movie, just games. Back up movies will load just like
the original on any unmodded system.
And from what i am told anything below a V4 is not DVD+R
compatible, but that may just be with games.
I say since it only cost about $1 for a disc, give it a
shot. Nothing to lose really. But i like the DVD-R better
in 8X speed

yeh i knwo that but my problem is that for some stupid ass reason my dvd burner wont burn to DVD-R, it does DVD-RW but the DVD-R i got from my friend wont burn, i keep getting an illegal disc error
