I am using DVD Decrypter/Nero 6.3.0.2. I have been able to sucessfully rip/burn and replay DVDs on both my PC DVD player and my external player - many times (sometimes at 8x but more commonly at 4x).

However, more recently I have been burning sucessfully (according to Nero) - but both my PC DVD Player and my external play do not reconisge the disc.

Talking to HP Support (it is an HP laptop that i bought 3 weeks ago) - they recommended using the bundled software (Sonic). This software is rubbish. I cannot even figure out how to backup DVDs using this. Just to test this though - I burnt a data disc to a DVD+R. This worked sucessfully. Still cannot burn ripped DVDs though.

I have reinstall my drivers, checked my Primary IDE settings (to use DMA if possible) etc.. Reading other posts on this forum, i have gathered the following data:

My PC has the following DVD writer - TSSTCorp model: CD/DVDW TS-L532M (according to VSO inspector). This apparently is a Samsung OEM drive and firmware updates are not available.

I have always used Imation DVD +R media (8x). Using DVD identifier I can provide the following info on this batch of media that I have:
Manufacturer Name: CMC Magnetics Corp.
Manufacturer ID: CMC MAG
Media Type ID: E01
Product Revision: Not specified

I can provide the Nero log too if that will assist.

please help...

@nzpatel,

Yeah... it would be nice if you can find an update firmware for your dvd burner. I don't know anything about Samsung's burner at all. However, all I can say is to update your Nero to the latest, which is Nero 6.6.0.16. In addition, get yourself some high quality media such as Taiyo Yuden (both including Fuji & Sony DVD+R "Made In Japan"), Verbatim (MCC003) and the Maxell "Made In Japan" (made by Hitachi - this is one top notch media) for your next burning and hopefully you'll get a successful result.

Those "Imation DVD+R" which is CMC MAG is inferior when comparing to today's media technology -- it won't do any good to you in the long run. Like I said; get other high quality media as I've mentioned above, so you won't have to worry much about getting coasters.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

Hi there,

I would not burn CMC Magnetics CRAP higher than 2x period.
Then run then in VSO Inspector v1.1 to run a "Sector by Sector" scan to make sure the burn is 100% error free.

As mentioned by alkohol, when your having burning issues, I always suggest using the latest firmware for your drive, latest version of Nero and burning slow, 2x !

And yes, buy quality media !

Good luck...

I would like to add this: I purchased my HP laptop DV1340US a few weeks ago. Bought a spool of Verbatim DVD+R Lightscribe blanks and have had a heck of a time tying to get a good DVD burn. I would like to say that I have been burning DVD's on my Sony DRU 120A for years now with out too much of a problem. Why is it I can't buy a $1500 laptop that says it is Lightscribe (HP's bloody invention!) compatible and then have trouble burning a good DVD+R on it's drive is beyond me. A drive that is supposed to do DVD+and- R/RW and dual layer no less!! Call HP (India) support and they say I should not use Verbatim media!! Right!! It is time to put pressure on the venders and insist on some support here.

@skysail1 - you haven't said what burning program you use. just in case it's Nero, let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar. You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

I am using Ulead DVD Movie Factory 3 Disc Creator and just updated from that to DVDMF4 to see if the problem got fixed. Nope. Here is the latest I just posted in reply on the "for advanced users" forum. Hope this explains better what I am experiencing:

I have a new HP DV1340US Laptop with the TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L532M writer. I have just gone through an entire 10-pack of Verbatim DVD+R Lightscribe media and have been unable to get a good burn. DVD Identifier says it is Mitsubishi media. Have tried at 8X and 4X with about same results. When I look at the burned side it looks like the last 1/4 of the data has been overwritten. That makes sense because when I do get a burn that seems like it is working...the last 1/4 to 1/3 of my project won't play and hangs up the DVD player (on the computer). HP is no help...they say "use HP branded media." I have burned successfully with Verbatim DVD+R standard media which DVD Identifier says is Ricoh media. HP has not advised about any firmware update on this Toshiba/Samsung combo writer. Anyone got advice other than for me to buy some more blanks of various brands?? Thanks for any responses.

@skysail1 -

HP media - hmmmm, dunno how to say it so i'll just say it -

HP DVD+R 2.4x (CMC MAG.R01)
HP DVD+R 4x (CMC MAG.F01)
HP DVD+R 4x (MCC.....002)
HP DVD+R 8x (CMC MAG.E01)
HP DVD+RW 4x (PHILIPS-041-000)

- all of those examples are atrocious utter rubbish - don't let them near your burner

creaky,

Those phillips 041 dvd+rw's are good media. I have some that are sony branded. Bought a 10 pack and still have 6 unused because I can overwrite them again and again. Threw 1 away because it got scratched up but the others probably have over 100 burns between the 3. No playback problems what so ever. Genuine phillips made media tends to be good. It's the phillips branded media you need to be leary of. They like to buy from cmc mag. The other hp branded media is garbage.

The problem is unlikely to be the media. Either the writer is faulty or you should try using Nero 6 burning rom. Also try updating the aspi layer:-
http://radified.com/ASPI/forceaspi.htm

I'd update aspi and then try burning with Nero first. If that doesn't work you probably have a faulty burner - complain and take your laptop back under warranty.

Success!! Downloaded chipset and program updates from HP ..AND...installed ASPI...then did a burn with my last of 10 blank Verbatim Lightscribe media at 2.4X. Copy is perfect. Not sure which one or two things made the difference. Since had only one blank handy I wanted to try everything. Thanks for the advice. Personally I think it was the ASPI install. Cheers.
