OOOOOOOOKAY, I need some help. I was trying to use this

and while doing that I have action replay I have mechassault (got it when first came out) so I am reading the readme and realize I should probably backup my hd, so I remove it and hook it up to my computer, and well this is the first problem, computer doesn't recognize/see it. Now so I'm like ok f'it I'm going to just go ahead and install linux and see what happens, so I hook it back to my xbox copy over the linux install for mechassault, load up mechassault cd and I go to the singleplayer and go to the account "linux" I try to access it, and guess what, invalid something or other and I'm just like shit, I just wasted 2 hours. ANY ADVICE? thnx in advance.
