I have a v5 ps2, fliptop, swap magic 3.6. I have only a DVD+R burner and the v5 is suppose to read it just fine. I burned using decryptor. read iso to hard drive, then write mds file. I am burning on Verbatim DVD+R i got at best buy, 25 for $20. I've cleaned my lens several times with windex and cutip, (no alcohol at home) and have adjusted the white gear thing. All original games load up fine including dvd+R movies I burned and regular dvds. For some reason though, my swap magic dvd disk sometimes takes awhile to load or doesnt load at all. Sometimes is loads just fine. when I swap in my burned disk, 19 out of 20 times, it will say, not a valid ps2 disk. I tried to burn at 1x time speed but it always goes up to 2.4. Don't know what else to try.

try using DVD-R media because even though it can read DVD+R mvies ps2 games are different. It takes a while to load swap magc even on my machine its because of the physical structure of the disc.

He only has a DVD+R burner, so that will not help him.
Even though i agree that the -R i have had much better
success with.

my swap magic disk is brand new. I'm assuming my next step is to find a friend with a DVD-R burner. Any other suggestions.

i've also followed tried booting up with the swap magic cd which reads much better but still no sucess. my steps are insert swap magic cd, push eject, insert a real dvd game, then insert dvd backup through flip top. and the usual, not a valid ps2 disk on the swap magic screen.

get a new burner. they're $35-45 now. if you could waste 20 dvdrs on one game you could afford it

I don't think there's anything else you can try. You'll have to get someone with a DVD-R burner to burn a disc for you or buy a DVD-R burner. It will probably be more useful for you in the long run to just buy the burner as then you'll have it for all your burning needs then.
I'd recommend getting a dual layer capable burner too, something that's an all rounder really... I have the NEC ND3520A and it's damn good, does DVD-R, DVD+R and DVD+R dual layer. I live in the UK and it only cost me £30 (approx $45)when I bought it around 6 months ago, and they have newer models now too for the same price.
good luck and hope you get something sorted

holy crap. i wasnt pressing the dvds all the way down when doing the manual swap. I didnt know it had to click unless mine is the only one that does that. you have to press down on all the sides of the dvd during the swap, which i didnt read anywhere. all my verbatim dvd+R's work just fine now. Time to return this sony burner and all this set of dvd-r's minus one dvd. hehe.
